Should I keep my 12Cilindri Allocation?

That's sort of like going to Subway and buying 10 sh!tty subs so that you can quality for a "free" sub in those "Buy 10 get 1 free" loyalty scams.

Hasn't it historically always been the case that the only way to qualify for the limited cars is to buy a significant number of non-limited cars?

What is new here other than inflation driving base prices up, margin capture driving option costs up, and higher interest rates making depreciation trends look more like 10 years ago than 3 years ago?

Why would there be a VS? Was there a VS for the Roma or Portofino? This car is no longer the Flagship or even close, it barely made the cut, revealed more than 7 years after the 812 reveal and 3 years after the 812C, using the same engine. Sales appear to be very slow and production will be necessarily thin due to V12 production demands from the FUV.

All fair points. My counter would be this, do you think Ferrari would struggle to sell 699 Coupe and 399 Spider for around 25-35% more than standard 12C? Personally, I do not think so, and that is why I would wager that the easy money will be too much to pass up.

But, the engine will be unchanged in any meaningful way, the V12 engineering team has been gone for years, unless they restart that would result in it being an 8-year old engine (or more) that was already 3 years old when the 12C was revealed; unless they cast off 300kg+, use bespoke analog gauges, and the like..could have a compelling reason for existing...

 

You will take a big hit on the car. The pricing of the latest generation Ferrari’s leaves absolutely nothing on the table for the owner. I have allocations on, and deposits in for, both versions. I won’t take either. Pricing is one reason, I think it’s just getting silly, but my others are:

1) I don’t like the haptics. It’s not a question of being old or young, it’s more about why make simple controls complicated.

2). The cars are big and heavy. Great suspension tech and software to keep them on the road but not what I’m looking for. I’d prefer light and agile but this is something Ferrari has stopped doing.

3). The engine - it’s a V12 so we all get excited. Unfortunately for Ferrari there are better V12s out there and this one doesn’t wow me anymore.

I’ve decided I’m pretty much done with Ferrari as they are unlikely to make a model that actually appeals. The idea of buying a lot of Ferraris to get a limited one or a halo one is to me not an interesting path. My two 812’s are “nice” cars but I don’t find them exceptional and I doubt I’ll keep either of them for much longer.

 

Frankly, I think weight savings and adjusted cosmetics would be sufficient for most buyers. The engine is glorious. For me, the TDF fixed the F12 and the Comp fixed the 812. I’m certain Ferrari could similarly fix the 12C. My 12C spec is going to come in just under $700. I would pay more for limited production, weight savings, and “fixed” styling. I think many others would too, hence the reason I think the car gets built. The value proposition to the buyer will be sufficient.

Did you happen to see the renders I posted above? That’s an imperfect design, but still gives fair representation on how much better the special version could be.

 

Have you ever imagined if the new battery that is being developed for the LaF, could be used for the 12C VS? In other words, the 12C VS would have a "KERS" system.
That would be quite a VS.
Just my imagination.

As noted earlier in thread, what’s refreshing is the OP didn’t get dumped on as usual, rather long time buyers have said much the same thing that the car is mostly ungainly, heavy, muted and overpriced. Not often we see the honestly here so soon after a new model launch.

 

I also agree that they will probably not be able to resist doing a 12 C Comp version, but I’m not sure it will be according to your maths. Our 812 Comp was over double our 812 Superfast - both TM but the Comp admittedly higher spec. The formula would have to adapt to the fact that it is hard to get more power from the current V12 engine and still meet regulations. But, for example, a lighter flywheel, giving a racier-feeling engine, shouldn’t do anything to emissions. Plus other tuning ideas to change the feel of the engine rather than its outright power hugely. Add to this different styling - for example, I don’t think the delta roof would be retained because I would expect to see a closed rear like the Comp again because the car would need more aero capability and I think they like this styling idea (I do too - it makes a much more focused atmosphere inside the cabin and gives a broader styling canvas to work with from the outside). Not sure why the slats were complained about because they were used to great effect on the TDF and with less impact on the Comp, sitting lower on the wheel arch to the rear. Personally, I prefer the TDF approach but both look good.

If they make the car 100kg+ lighter, that would be quite aggressive and in combination with styling, aero and engine tweaks would produce a sought after product. I think they would make at least the same as Comp, possibly more, which is where the difficulty comes. Maybe 999 coupes and 999 spiders, at £400k extra price is £800m or over $1bn in additional revenue. Yeah, I think they’ll make it!

I think there might be a lot of people here who say they wouldn’t buy one. But I also think they’ll get sold out instantly, at least if it were launched today. Probably that demand gets even stronger in two years when the standard car’s familiarity has driven appreciation of it. If the market has a huge correction, such that even rare cars just tank in value then they would have a job selling them but maybe that won’t happen. It’s not impossible though.

 

If you are not going to take either car that you have a deposit on, why don't you pull back your deposit and allow others to get an allocation?

 

I did see the renders, noticed your body colored 'wings', seems to me, if it exists, most likely the 12C-VS will be a body kit and probably nothing else of note. That would reduce Ferrari's costs while finding a second life for this car...maybe it'll just be a 'modificata' instead of a VS?

 

I don't think Ferrari would make fewer units or the same amount as the 812C / CA.

I believe in ~1200 coupes and ~800 Apertas, but without pre-releasing numbers (like the Pista), since Ferrari never releases numbers for models with more than 1,000 units. At least not yet.

This car will sell itself, I'm sure it will be impressive. They will improve every possible point of improvement in the 12C project / design.

Agree. The rear deck design is just so bad though but better on the targa version.

 

It became more evident with the LaFerrari and later special ones. Most people who got an Enzo were long time customers but didn't have to buy models they didn't want. Granted the LaFerrari was 10 years ago already..

 

I think there are many eho wiuld welcome another V12.

The design team has many ideas for such a model.
But I doubt they would borrow the design in the way of this "cut and paste" rendering.

A lighter weight car would be able to satisfy the performance side of the equation.

 

Same tired recipe is getting old. Build an ok car, fix it with the VS version and charge 50% more. Oh and kiss the dealers ass along the way. I let my allocation go and selling my 812 GTS. I'm gonna focus more on older models so I don't have to be hustled and buy from whomever I want.

 

Why sell the GTS?

 

Mostly to make room but there is a chance I keep it. Its my only road legal Ferrari right now but rarely gets driven.
