Time to buy! Even new Spiders seeing price cuts. Maserati MC20 Discounts Soar to $85,000 Off: What’s Going On? https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/enthusiasts/maserati-mc20-discounts-soar-to-85-000-off-what-s-going-on/ar-AA1wV3V3 Maserati’s flagship supercar, the MC20, is facing a surprising sales struggle, with dealers across the United States slashing prices to move inventory. One of the most striking discounts comes from Van Nuys Maserati in Sherman Oaks, California, where a brand-new 2022 MC20 coupe is listed for just $208,000—an astonishing $85,895 off its original MSRP of $293,895. This is not a fluke. The heavily discounted MC20, with only delivery mileage and full factory warranties, reflects a broader trend. Van Nuys Maserati has several other MC20 models on sale, including 2023 models discounted by over $20,000. Among them, a 2023 MC20 Cielo Spyder in Giallo Genio (yellow) is priced at $270,000, offering open-top thrills at a reduced cost. The trend extends far beyond California. Maserati of Naperville in Illinois is offering over $23,000 off select 2024 MC20 Cielo models. In Kansas, Aristocrat Motors lists a red 2023 MC20 hardtop at $249,950, slashing $37,545 off MSRP. Meanwhile, Maserati of Bergen County in New Jersey is offering discounts as high as $70,197 on some MC20s, including a 2023 model in Orange Zest, now priced at $209,998 after sitting unsold for over 500 days.
They were/ are just priced too high for what you are getting relative to what you could get superficially imo. Low 200's / high 100's more like it, regardless that you are getting a state of the art carbon fiber tub and meticulously done interior. Imo they tried to apply the high cost of extras when in fact they should have just provided more standard features. My cielo msrp was over 330 but still didn't include high end radio or front camera and of course no carbon fiber brakes, but I do have carbon trimmings all over the place . That said, I like the car a lot but it's not a performer imo. My '23 Z06 was much more of a performer, but it was a corvette. The cielo looks great imo, as good as if not more unique than some Ferraris. The interior is spacious and pleasing. Too bad they couldn't retain the Maser exhaust sound that they had on their older models, much closer to the Ferrari sound. To me the exhaust sound now is pitiful / embarrassing , sounds like an Asian car, but I really haven't got on it yet.
Sadly, maserati is not long for America. I get adverts for discount lease on new gt all the time. Stellantis overall probably not far behind. I knew they were dead when announced ev muscle cars. Even jeep is in trouble. Sad
Too bad... I also have a Grecale modena and I like it too. Was almost 100k, fully loaded . I like the drive, size, looks and appointments. It's quick , and so far no issues. I dislike the pushbutton gear selector array. Damn 2nd maintenance service was $1600 but that's the new scam with these European makers imo. I was given a Levante gt loaner and I thought that was less than the grecale but maybe bc of it being a gt than a modena, idk. I like jeep I hope they don't go away. The only thing that is annoying me lately is some makers are turning to push button gear selectors (jeep). I hate it, not intuitive . One has to look at the selector array as opposed to the feel of a shifter. Even the LR RR went away from that crap.
When they first came out most of us here thought the starting price for a coupe should have been $165K and options getting you about $200K. It seems its getting closer to what "the experts" like ourselves wanted. I personally like the Cielo. I think this car (outside anyway) is better looking than the 296 Ferrari and it doesn't have the hybrid stuff. More CF than the Ferrari as well. And no 2 year waiting list. If prices keep falling a bit more a good low mileage car might come in at the lower $100K mark. Could be a real steal if you can get an extended warranty. Remember it wasn't that long ago you could get a low mileage Alfa 4c for the mid 30's. This car might drop a ton, then bounce back.
I love my MC20 bought right. Not perfect and an incredible car for under $200k. Sound is its weakest link, yet I have come to like the quiet whistles and hisses- better than the vacuum noise of most other turbos. It’s an exotic ride with a carbon tub that actually complements my Porsche and Ferrari experience. Also, any turbo lag is imperceptible to non existent driven in manual mode. Incredible throttle response for a turbo or any car. it also may be the most beautiful car at any price. I’m almost itching to buy a second one.
@TheMayor I viewed the listing of the Firemist Orange at Maserati Bergen County you mentioned above - wow I didn't know that color existed and it is SHARP! Interior, too. Thanks for the heads-up on it. Price is decent (brand new car) - heck I sold an orange/orange 2002 Acura NSX to free up funds for the yellow 2023 MC20 I mentioned above in post #1849. Am I glad I waited. Firemist orange would look quite proper beside my remaining org/org NSX Anyway, a 2023 MC20 (yellow I recall) listed last week on BaT RNM'd, and then another one, more loaded with CF options and brakes, just popped up on BaT. Has a ginormous $309K sticker as I recall. Don't see me into one now, as I came to realize I "already have this sports car" insofar as 2022 NSX Type-S (is rear engine 3.5 L TT V-6, not much storage space, etc etc). Getting on in years - an Aston is looking more and more attractive. But I'll always be looking at these MC20's!
I have nothing against this car other than its original MSRP. If they solve that problem, its really remarkable. And going to be a lot rarer than the 296 Ferrari.
That is a pretty car and really well specced - seems like the only box that wasn't checked was forged wheels. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2023-maserati-mc20-coupe-10/
Agree - will be interesting to see if/where it sells. I'd love to have those CF front and rear fascias + side lower panels but must admit I'd be so extremely paranoid about them even getting touched or bumped they might make me crazy.
About 4000 Ford GTs were made and yeah they are holding up very well as a collectable, but I just don't see the MC20 going this direction as the brand is too tarnished in the US. That said, I don't see the MC20 falling like a stone, but rather I believe they'll be similar to that of a Mclaren in terms of depreciation
The difference is that the MC20 is beautiful in a way that every McLaren isn’t. And the Ford brand is certainly not a plus vs an Italian one. Regardless, it’s likely to take a while. Importantly, it hardly matters as there is nothing- virtually new (or old) that provides the experience this car does for under $200k that look like this.
There is zero collectible and investable about the MC20, but that's the case with 95% of Ferraris, Lamborghinhis, and McLarens too. They will hold their value better after a certain time and then it will just be a steady decline inline with all other makes in this class independent of inflation. If you see a big appreciation like the pandemic, it will be related to money supply and inflation, not the underlying asset.
Not sure about that- although the odds are in your favor. The MC20 is so beautiful and exotic feeling and very, very fast while relatively rare. If it turns out to be a reliable car (so far so good) it is likely to be appreciated later. Of course it doesn’t matter at the prices they can be purchased for enjoyment now. I have owned and own cars costing multiples of this that don’t garner the same appreciation for their beauty. Why does an early Countach command ludicrous money today? The car was junk in its day, uncomfortable and not a great performer. My guess is that its solely the design along with the turnaround of the brand thanks to Audi ownership.
There are hundreds of examples cars that have more upside than the MC20. Some examples are the Alfa Romeo 8C or even with higher production numbers the manual GT3 Tourings. Keep in mind, I love the MC20, but there is such a high production of great cars across all brands. Each car is special from a micro perspective, but add them all together and nothing is special anymore like the Countach ended up being. Even the Pista type cars are going to struggle having a lasting collectibility and investment persona and it is without doubt on another level as the MC20.
I don’t understand the special appeal of a GT3 Touring. It’s just a GT3 with a wing delete- just an option delete. No performance difference. GT3’s are not even scarce- they’re just great cars. I own a GT3 and a Speedster. The Speedster (first appearance of 992 engine with individual throttle bodies and the only convertible GT3 ever made) is far more special and limited and not that much more expensive ($50K+) than a Touring GT3. That is the one to own. Pista is also a hardcore car (and a derivative) unlike the MC20 which is a comfortable exotic. There’s also a huge price gap (you can drive a truck thru) between the two. I love the looks of the Pista and in my opinion the MC20 is prettier. Odds are still in your favor and I wouldn’t rule out the MC20.
LOL.....this is the funniest thing I've read in awhile, good job Don't get me wrong, I like the car and might buy one when they go below $150k so I wouldn't feel bad parking it outside.
It certainly is a plus when Ford can build an icon halo car, which it has now done twice in 20 years.....The number of Ford guys exceeds the number of Maserati guys probably 50 to 1.
I need to hang out here more often, you guys are hilarious. OK, what was outperforming a Countach in the late 70s? Nothing from Ferrari. I love the Boxer and all but it was 100 hp behind.
This is very true, there are too many supercars being produced today to drive values (excluding hypercars). Even McLaren is having trouble with their racing history building in value. I own a '99 Lamborghini Diablo Roadster.....want to talk about real rarity? In 1999, Lamborghini made less than 300 cars worldwide, the facelifted re-designed Roadster only had 142 made. And that was the last year of the Roadster.
I wouldn't buy an MC20 because I think its price might go up. I have no idea if it will or not. But if you look at a new or barely used car you can buy (with discounts) under $200K, there's not a lot out there that can touch it. It seems closer to what McLaren is doing than what Ferrari is doing. So if you want a pure Italian car (well, if you overlook the Tremec gearbox but that's actually a positive thing) but with some of the McLaren technology and a price less than Ferrari or Lambo -- its a pretty good choice. And you're not going to find another one going the other way on the road very often other than a car show. I have never understood the 2005 Ford GT used prices but look at them now. Average about 3-4 times the original MSRP. Its not the number of units built alone. Its the total number of people would want one and can afford to pay for it.
