So i'll be starting my search for a 458 in a month or so with me being really serious about buying one closer to the end of the year. What are some must have options that some of you cant live without in your 458?

For me i've been looking at whats online and i've been compiling a small list of what i want but just wanted some opinions.

So far some options i'd really like but hasnt really upgraded to must haves are:

    Red or Black exterior
    Black interior
    Carbon Bucket Racing Seats
    Carbon Fiber Interior trim pieces
    Backup Camera
    iPod connector

My only must have right now is the LED steering wheel.

What other options were available that some of you love having or just had to have?

There are some things on the first list that i might be willing to sacrifice to get something else. Like i'll sacrifice the exterior color if everything matches for me interior. Or i'll be willing to live with a Beige interior if it has all the carbon bits and racing seats (which one example is on CarGurus right now). But just curious what some current owners have or wish they had. Thanks!

Cameras are a must for me. Im at stock height so no front lift was necessary. Exhaust valve controller is nice if stock exhaust. Your list is good start.

oh totally didnt even think about front lift. I'll have to add that to the list. For the exhaust valve controller is that an aftermarket option or was it something that actually was a factory option?

Scuderia shields are a must have for resale. Most are specced with them anyway but worth considering.

Controller is aftermarket. So many cars now have modded exhausts anyway. Good dash and headliner leather fit. Working electronics. 2 keys that work. Cover, tools, manuals. frunk tire inflator recent service histories, good PPI.

Agree that LED steering wheel and scuderia shields are must haves both for resale and because (in my view) the car doesn't look anywhere near as good with the standard steering wheel or without the shields.

If your garage is a tight fit (as mine is) then I would also add the folding mirrors to the essentials list.

Not essential, but I personally wish mine had cruise control. The throttle is very sensitive, which makes maintaining a constant speed for motorway driving a bit of a pain. It was only a £500 option, but very few seem to have specced it!

Yeah definetly want the scuderia shields. Every example i've seen has had them so i thought they were a standard option but seems like everyone so far has just specced it cuz they kinda needed to for resale value. Wont need the folding mirrors as my garage has enough space. Probably wont do cruise control (i mean if it has it great) as i never use it in any of my cars.

For me, Lifter, Backup Camera, folding mirrors. Carbon buckets are rare enough that it will make finding a car difficult unless you aren't very picky about the rest.
I don't get the desire for the carbon/LED wheel, personally I think it looks ugly and dated.

For me the folding mirrors, and lift are nice to haves. The backup camera i want more for an ease of parking issue and so i dont run over some kid when i back out of spots. The carbon buckets for me i'd be willing to take even if it meant sacrificing the lift, backup camera, and folding mirror.

I like the LED steering wheel because i think it looks cool. It's something i did spec on my G87 M2 when i ordered it. Didnt end up taking delivery cuz build time was a year and i didnt want the car that badly.

Interesting take. I think the non-carbon/LED wheel looks even more dated - it essentially retains the design language from the 430 where so much of the rest of the design language in the 458 interior had moved on.

What makes you think it looks dated? The wheel in the 488 is identical and the wheel in the F8 is more or less the same too.

nose lift, shields (haven't seen a car without it), and LED steering wheel are all must haves and will impact resell if they aren't there.

For me, it was carbon buckets and shields. Didn't care for the carbon wheel and lights, gimmicky to me. Didn't care for the front lift, never used it in my Porsche GT cars and those are way lower. Backup cam is easily retrofitable for a few thousand dollars.

The most important thing is the condition of the car and mechanical reliability. Trim parts, especially all the carbon is easily added after the fact if you'd like (mine has none, and I like it that way)

I agree for the most part. had a GT4 and never felt the need for nose lift. Figured it would just be a nice to have option on the 458. Backup camera also not huge deal as there are super cheap solutions that i've seen other people on here do, but also figured just nice to have. Carbon Buckets is pretty high on my list though, right below the LED steering wheel.

GT3 ground clearance is 3.9 inches vs. 4.0 for the 458 so it is NOT way lower. Carbon fiber panels are extremely expensive to purchase and install. I don't have them in mine, but I wish I did. I looked into buying them but hell nah, not at that price. The tach lights are essential if you don't want to search at a dark tach. There is a reason they put those on F1 cars you know. I wouldn't touch a car without those "gimmicky" lights.

Personally, I would not allow anybody to put aftermarket camera's on my car. The last thing you want to mess up in a Ferrari are the electronic. Hold out for the backup camera, you'll thank me later. I don't have one in my car. HUGE PITA without it. Lots of buyers want the lifts. I don't have that either, but its never been a problem. If the car has the CD player, make sure it works. If it doesn't, it can be a bargaining point in your favor. They are super expensive to replace, I mean you'd need to have FU money to replace with an original.

one of the solutions i saw is battery powers and wireless and mounts to your license plate so no installation needed. It's then wirelessly connected to either your phone or a Garmin tablet which for me would be fine. I'd be willing to not have backup camera if everything else fell into place. I think as of right now the only thing i absolutely dont want to sacrifice is the LED wheel. Bucket seats i'd sacrifice if everything else was there.

    1. Your car must have been lowered. A 991 GT3 is 88mm measured at the lip, that is exactly 3". A 992 GT3 is closer to 3.75". A stock height 458 is 7.5" on factory spec tires. You can probably drop a non-lifter 458 to about 4". At 7.5", I cannot see why its needed.

    2. Using an f1 example to justify why you like steering wheel shift lights is actually hilarious. Just say that you prefer shift lights, you're entitled to your opinion. But since you want to debate this, LED shift lights in 458's, or any street car is absolutely a gimmick. Theres no justifiable purpose that you would need lights to indicate when to shift on a 458. The tach exists, its backlit. No visuals needed, use the sound of the engine to shift and only reference the visuals. F1 cars have no dash, the LEDs serve as the tach. No one here is driving anywhere near the threshold of an f1 driver. If you're trying to push your car and extract 10/10ths, you should be on track, and you shouldn't be in a 458italia/spider, you should be in a 458 challenge, which btw, does not have LEDs on the steering wheel. The carbon and LED wheel is meant to give the car a more unique feel to the average driver who wants to own one of these and not a necessity. A gimmick is defined as device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business, which is exactly the LED wheel.

    3. We disagree on a lot of things, which makes responding so fun - all 458's have the input for a backup camera. Its whether or not one gets plugged in at factory and programmed or not. Any good installer can put a backup cam in and make it function as OEM. The port is available, just plug it in, find someone with a leo/galileo to program the BCM to backup camera = active and you're good to go. I would argue that aftermarket backup cameras have a cleaner install than the OEM design thats moulded into the bumper.

    1. Source please. Once I get back to my other home where the car is stored, I'll measure again, with pictures. My car is bone stock.

    2. I happen to like the LED lights regardless of their use in F1. But to simply dismiss the technology developed in F1 is hilarious to me. They are not a gimmick. I can't even see my tach during the day because of the stupid tunnel Ferrari encased the tach in. I absolutely use those LED's and they are accurate, not a gimmick. In fact, my eyes tract better using the lights which I can see out of my peripheral vision. If I had enough track time, I would just use my hearing. You're correct its not on the steering wheel of the challenge car, its on the dash display.

    3. As I wrote, its my opinion. I'm not going to have someone jerry rig a camera on the car nor am I going to recommend it. People can do what they want to their own cars.

The racing seats are awesome, I wish my car had them. I have the power Daytona's. Don't get a car with beige carpet because the carpet will look dirtier before black does.

The solitary round LEDs feel like they are straight from the 90s. I'm also over carbon trim, it was cool in the early 2000s, but now I think its passe.
Compared with the 430 wheel, the much smaller airbag on the 458 wheel makes it look alot better. I wouldn't say it looks modern, but it doesn't look dated.

As for the lifter, its rare that I need it, but I've been it only takes one situation where you need it to make it worthwhile. I'm glad to have it and not have to worry about it.

I think funny enough this is actually where the car shows its age a bit in the LED wheel. The more modern wheels definetly look more futuristic, but thats a super minor complaint for me. The Carbon Trim i generally agree with. My experience with Carbon was always some JDM rice boi that tried to make every single interior piece carbon in their CIVIC ****box and so it's the reason i have zero carbon in my GTS. That being said this is one of the few times where i actually like the carbon trim in the 458. It actually looks nicer to me than the standard silver trim which i think looks super tacky. I think if it was more of a brushed aluminum then i would go either way, but the flat silver makes it look cheap to me.

Not for nothing, the carbon wears better. The non-carbon trim gets a strike by a ring finger and that scars, vs the carbon finish that can take minor abuse. I have the tiniest of nicks on my drivers door from a ring (about 2mm) and it drives me crazy. It will wear better on the steering wheel too (vs leather) but I dare you to grab it on a hot summer day after the car has been sitting....molten.
