Here is a question maybe someone knows how to answer? What do the small buttons on the side of the exterior door handle actually do? My Ferrari sales guy told me they unlock the doors if the fob is in your pocket but that did not work. Must be something

Not that bad? Have you tried entering a new address into the native nav system using the haptic control pad? Impossible or tried requesting a destination using the voice command button? It never ever understands anything I say - and I don’t have any accent and speak slowly and clearly. I figured out that the home button if held brings up the main rpm gauge screen - where does it explain this in the manual or with some label in the car? Even the bumpy road mode does not have any label on the steering wheel - all hidden. Even the design where you pull the right paddle back for forward? Why not just have the reverse little handle move forward for engaging the transmission? Who would know to pull the right paddle???

I find you can scroll though songs in am radio mode but not in Fm radio mode. Why?

also the stereo picks up very few regular radio ststions whether am or pm. Really bad reception-

In the manual it says the doors unlock if I have the fob in my pocket - mine don’t on my 296– on my 911 2021 Targa the door handles pop out when I walk up to the car. But not the 296.

I take it you didn't read the manual. I did and I can tell you all of your questions are in the manual. I promise.
When I said it's not that bad, I meant it is usable and doesn't affect what I like about the car. I never use the native GPS on this type of car. It's already obsolete by the time you get it (I mean roads etc.). I use my phone for waze or Google maps.

Also, tell me one car where the voice commands are useful. None. Not even a Tesla. Maybe with AI it will get better but not now.

Lastly who listens to regular FM nowadays? I prefer Deezer or Spotify or even the terrible Sirius XM.

Just enjoy the car for what it is, drive it like crazy.

Ok that one is a bit tricky. And I don't think it is in the manual. If you quickly press on the lock button twice, you will enable/disable the keyless entry.

Maybe there is a setting to have that - on many cars you have the choice (I disabled it in my daily driver to avoid having the car opening / closing each time I was near it in my garage).

Funny, I just walked into a dealer last week in Florida, never bought a car from them ever, and they offered me a 2025 allocation for summer delivery as well. These cars are not hard to get. They're going to tank like crazy, and already are.

post covid car market was bad. inflation is killing people. has nothing to do with the car being hybrid or anything. it will bounce back. if inflation isn't killing your business or metrics and you have the cash now is the time to get in. but if you have to borrow forget it. what you save on buying at a discount you pay in interest in that case. so it is silly. it is always going to be good timing for some people so good on them.

the car itself is an amazing machine dynamically a A+ by any measure.

a lot of people post what they paid for a used one and they comment and comment but they should post what country they are in and if they traded a car in and or financed. that will give you the whole picture. some people trade a car in to get a used 296 but they pay back on the trade in by losing on it (because it depreciated too) and the savings they gained by buying a used 296 are semi nulled. it is all relative.

the winner is the dude that can pay cashola and or trade in and make money on the trade in.

a lot of people post about depreciation like it's the car's fault, lol. it's the market that is all. these are really expensive cars. ( i bought a range rovers sport sv last year- the SVR replacement- original SVR kept value when new but the new one lost even though super limited )i don't know who some of you are but where i come from 75% or more of the people that have these cars lease/finance them so they can pose and rates are high. so the markets make them pay for it anyway. again- cash is king then no matter.

no one is making me feel bad. i pd cash. have the car exactly like i want. no one else has driven it. i had the pleasure of speccing and waiting for it and doing what i want with it. i didn't purchase it with the anxiety of it being an investment. if anyone wants to know how astoundingly fast and amazing it is to have it let me know- i'll fill you in. it's worth every penny.

    Glad you’re happy.

No one needs these cars. They are wants. I already am blessed and have too many sports cars. For me, I can only justify adding after most of the perceived depreciation is out. Then it’s financially harmless- relatively. I’m a cash buyer- I don’t believe in leveraging for depreciating assets.

I will wait until the market signals that the worst is over. The signal is the number available in the resale market. Prices must go lower to clear the large overhang. Most of these cars are hardly used/ essentially new. The second mouse gets the cheese.

You walked in - said Hey I want to order a 296.
    Dealer - I need a 30k deposit
You then said ... I don't want one bc they are going to tank like crazy.
Dealer salesperson if he even acknowledged you - laughing at you not with you!

    Why did you delete this…

“Tell you what I will send you the amount in cash you match it - if you have the car by August keep the money if you don't I keep your money.
I am 100% up for the challenge - are you?”

I was impressed. FYI: My dog is named Cocoloco.

I wish this forum was more about great cars and the wonderful experience of owning and driving them. Literally every blog eventually degrades into negative comments about depreciation. Ferrari Chat should set up section called “Depreciation” and maybe we could divert a majority of that negativity to one place and like minded people could enjoy each other’s negativity sparing the rest of us enthusiasts.

Why would you read a thread of “Buy new or secondary…” if you don’t want to hear about resale value? Isn’t depreciation material to that discussion?

I love driving sports cars. Since I do not have unlimited funds, depreciation impacts my ability to enjoy more of these great cars.

The same minority of detractors here don’t represent the mainstream motoring enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination. The countless motoring video blogs, motoring journalists reviews etc etc always discuss depreciation and values at one point simply because of its intrinsic relevance.
There will always be a minority who don’t have anything else better to do with their time other than to be disruptive (as evidenced on this board and others). If only this same small group of detractors spent time driving their cars (like they try to make out to everyone here they do - which they obviously don’t) they may actually be able to add some value to the board instead of being disruptive and argumentative toward others who just wish to engage the topic and have a meaningful discussion.

Because it’s hard to buy these cars and use them and even harder to communicate your feelings succinctly. It’s very easy, however, to research auto trader and look at prices and stir the pot on the value discussion. This is the internet, after all. Many more trolls than contributors.

In fairness, the overall percentage of resale conversations here is dwarfed by the percentage of ADM conversations on the Porsche board.

Fair point, but the trend is not unexpected. There’s a couple factors at play. The COVID boom/bust cycle brought a ton of speculators into the market and they’re being sorted through and shuffled out. Mostly though, the market shifted from ICE cars somewhat unburdened by regulatory restrictions, to the electrified cars with substantial regulatory guardrails. Not everyone loves the current batch of cars, glorious as they might be. This shift coincided perfectly with both the post-COVID down cycle and Ferrari’s more aggressive pricing/volume. Not everyone is happy about this turns of events. Indeed, we’ve seen several enthusiasts on this board abandon Ferrari altogether (I don’t need to point directly to them, we know who they are) and not because they don’t have the financial wherewithal to participate in the transition (they can buy whatever they want), but because they drew a line in the sand and chose not to go along.

I talked to a FChat friend today with a heavy MSRP SF90 Spider about to land and he doesn’t love the fact that he will be paying $200,000 more than it’s worth. Worth mentioning, if I had my friend’s money, I would burn mine, so it’s not a financial concern, it’s merely about being a good steward with your resources. Myself, I have a heavy MSRP 12C inbound and I harbor no illusions as to the quality of that investment. I will pay $700 for a car I very well know will be a $450 car in 18 months. I love my cars and I keep my cars so depreciation might not burden me the same way it does others, but I’m certainly willing to concede the relevance.

All that said, I can understand the emergence of resale as a hot topic on this board. I’m not surprised, and I expect the pace to continue. Hellscape is right. We can only hope that it will be balanced by more, and even better, discussions involving the respective merits and attributes of these incredible cars.

Last point, the real cost of these cars is the actual opportunity cost of owning them. My personal collection includes 05 Ford GT, 812 GTS, Pista, 992 GT3 Touring Manual, 992 GT3 RS, a custom built Icon FJ40, and Jeep 392 Wrangler as my fun vehicles. I have decent amount of cash tied up in cars (although my little collection rather modest compared to many on FChat). The real cost isn’t the relatively slow depreciation process, the real cost is not having that money invested in the Mag7 or BTC the last several years. The depreciation amounts to hundreds of thousands, while the missed investment gain is millions. It’s really strange that no one really ever discusses that.
