i have a 1999 ferrari modena 360, and i recently had the f1 power unit, (pump) replaced. i replaced the pump due to some melted solinoids on the old pump. well after the install... mistakenly gear oil was put into the pump resesvior and basically blew a valve i assume, because the the gear oil is so thick.. and once i took the actuator off the tranny i saw the car trying to kick it into a gear right away, so what i did was remove the f1 pump (the new one that had the gear oil) and removed the solinoid pack that was damaged on the old one, made by magentmarelli, and installed it on the old pump. used the exact same solinoid for replacment,

it works now, the car starts and they neutral light does not blink anymore, however the car will not shift into any gear at all... it starts and stays in neutral however.

all the pump hoses were double checked to make sure they went the right way, and the pump system was bled using an sd-2. any ideas or any info that might help me on getting this car to engage into a gear??

one thing i heard about is that the engine cover and the driver door, along with hood needs to be shut.. i have all that shut.. however i think the engine bonnet light still shows up.. could anyone tell me what that light looksl ike? is it the one with the two big waves on the right and left? along with any info on how to get that light turned off?? anyway any info would be appricated and i will give updates on this. as well. thanks!

The engine lid open light looks like the profile of the car with the rear hatch open. The light you describe sounds like the traction control. Try shutting the master power switch off for 15 minutes and try again. It just need to be reset.

I hope I don't need to ask but, did you have your foot firmly on the brake when you tried to shift into 1st?

if engine bonnet switch is faulty, the ecu thinks it's open & will not go into gear.

If the brake light circuit is faulty (bad switch, blown fuse) the F1 will not shift, even with the brake pedal depressed.

Won't go into gear if the drivers door is open also...
Hold the up paddle for about 30 seconds and see if it engages..

hey guys thanks so much for you input... sorry it took a few days to respond... well i took the car to the shop on Monday morning.. they they ones that did the bleed, and check the parameters for air pressure on the f1 pump. the only update so far that i heard, is that when i installed the f1 pump, i put on of the filters backwards and they flipped it back but to no avail. i'm going to let them know about the braking lights, cause i think, on mine, of the lights went out.. not the brake light though, the parking light on the driver side, the bulb is good though i did chk that out, i was just more conserned about the f1 pump so i didnt really bother with it but if you guys say that might be a problem then i'll look into it... the f1 is sooo sensitive, i wish i got a 6-spd now.. is there a way to override the f1 to go into gear? also the transmission light is on... i'll get the codes from the dealer today and post them, for your guys input, thanks so much,

i talked to the shop today, they are going to rebleed the system.. and the sd-sensor gave couple of errors, right rear wheel, and left rear wheel, they guy did not remember the exact error codes on his head and said i can call him tommrow (wednesday) after the diaognis the system again after bleeding it. so i'll have an update tommrow morning about it.

on a lighter note..... i hate f1! manual is going to be my next ferrari, i'm actually going to start looking seriously into some next week, ive been browsin on the net this week and seems reasonable for me.

anyway thanks guys for you help on my f1.. sure apprciate

Same issue with my friends 360. Everything is checked and replaced including the actuator but the gear does not engage. All fluid pressure is ok and the gears shift from the diagnostic tool but not from the paddles. Stressful

I'm no expert but does the diagnostic tool override the foot on brake to engage first gear ? If so then the implication is the car is not seeing a foot on brake to get out of neutral and into first or reverse by paddle

I encountered this issue today with my 01 360 Spider. Started it up after driving it around all day, and it just wouldn’t shift. I restarted the car to no avail.

After a few minutes of googling and checking this page, I hit the brake again and attempted to pull the right paddle and it shifted fine.

One clue I got the other day was the brake switch was throwing a fault when it was hooked up to the diagnostic machine. I suspect maybe a sensor in the brake switch is faulty and that’s why the F1 wouldn’t allow me to shift. This has happened once or twice since I’ve owned my car.

I was really fascinated by the F1 transmission for many years, as it seemed like an interesting and unique application of tech — but after owning one, it’s simply too finicky and unreliable. Maybe it was better when these cars were younger? I hadn’t really seriously considered converting the car but I am warming up to the idea. I know this isn’t an active discussion but it feels useful for future googlers so I figured I’d share my situation.

Did you unplug the actuator selection or engagement potentiometers? That can make it go bonkers until you shift into neutral and/or do a power cutoff. The sensors could just have gone out to lunch, but that would seem like really bad luck.
