Anyone have suggestions on a good cart to use for a 355 (gated) engine out service? I see some slick custom built ones. Anyone find a pre-built cart that works? Any suggestion?

    Thanks

I use the 1k lb hydraulic table cart from harbor freight, then put the whole subframe down on 4 jackstands while doing work.

The 1k cart is unavailable in my area. Any thoughts on if the 500lb cart would work? I suspect the weight is pushing 500lbs.

Elevated stock cart. This one is from Graingers. Far less that any quality hydraulic lifting table and much more stable.

I think it's a little over 600lbs. You can order it from HF and they'll get one in for you if they're not available. It made things a breeze, also easy to move/roll the assembly around on it.

that’s what I do. The subframe bolts line up almost perfect that way.

Due to the garage height, I'm limited on how high I can lift the car so I need one the can get fairly low.

An f-chatter and fellow Stooge offered to let me borrow his set up.

Only if you like working hard.
I am lazy. I want to stand up and walk around it. Not grovel on the floor.

Like others, I used a hydraulic cart. It allowed me to lower the engine slowly and check all the connections.

I could roll the engine around as needed during servicing.

Some level of adjustment was available during re-installation.

My only complaint is the lowering function is a little jerky with the engine weight on the cart.

I guess raising the hoist does not have same effect.

That's actually what I did once I was sure the connections were free and realized I was doing it the hard way. :)

I have a nice rolling stool I sit on and roll around. It's quite comfortable.

If you do just one job every five years, that puny Harbor Freight dolly is barely good enough. If you do more than that, you will need something a lot beefy.

I built an engine stand (thanks to Dave for the plans) but I have no lift. So I need an alternative.
