330 GTC AC evaporator question

    Greetings, below is a photo looking into the AC exhaust vent of a 330 GTC.
    Notice the light-colored felt covering the evaporator coil. Except for a couple of places where the felt has pulled away from the bottom of the coil, the felt covers the entire bottom.

    I can appreciate slowing down the air in the coil for cooling, but this felt seems to block the airflow.
    Inspecting evaporators from typical cars, there's no such covering.

    Does anyone have an explanation for the felt?

    Covering up evaporator coil doesn't make sense to me, but there are plenty of other things people do I don't understand either.

    Strange thing is, the AC is this car worked normal for a GTC.
    Below is a photo looking down into a Daytona evaporator... no such covering:

    The outflow of the Dino AC has half flaps in 2 of the 3 vents.
    Same idea is bad to slow flow

    we make ac units for gtc, inside and outside - all the parts - never have seen anything like what u have shown
