    Hello,

I read on FC that owners have been able to disable the TPMS system by simply removing the TPMS ecu.

I crawled under the dash yesterday and unplugged the TPMS ecu, however, when I turn the ignition on, the dash instantly throws an "Electrical System Failure" warning.

Can anyone verify that this method actually works?

    Thanks.

I have no experience in this but if you just unplug the TPMS ECU the main system is going to see that and throw a warning code I would believe. Why are you wanting to disable TPMS?

There's several thread on FC where people have explicitly stated that they simply removed the TPMS ECU and that disabled the TPMS system, especially if they had bad wheel sensors or a TPMS failure.

I want to disable mine because mine also has a TPMS Failure warning on the dash.

Here’s an idea: why don’t you just fix the TPMS that failed?

    Because I’m being cheap :)

I have a suspicion multiple wheel sensors are bad or have dead batteries, the scan tool says so anyways…

The tires still have 50-60% life on them, so I don’t feel like taking the tires off now to replace the sensors. I’d rather wait until I put on new tires.

Odd for multiple batteries to go at once… and yes I’d find and fix the problem before disabling the system

    LOL... I considered it.

I may end up just doing that. I'm extremely OCD and I keep my cars in tip top shape but I'm also cheap at times...

Update: I replaced all the TPMS sensors, which didn't resolve the TPMS Failure error:

    Sensors:
    https://www.tpmsbargains.com/Ferrari-458-TPMS-Sensor-p/tpms-9008-03-uvc.htm

I ended up also replacing the TMPS ECU (Part #299017), which finally fixed the error :)

One thing to note, it's imperative that you set the tire pressures to 30psi (Front), 29psi (Rear) cold, before you do the TPMS calibration, otherwise, it will not calibrate and you'll keep getting the TMPS disabled warning.
