i am taking the question raised in the F40 section here to maybe get some more technical opinions...

i need new tires for the F40
the original pzeros are available from tire rack but are the old compound (ie not very soft), and cost $2670.
the new compound pzeros will be available sometime later this year, will be much stickier apparently, but will cost $3500.

on the other hand i have found michelin ps2 for the rear and michelin ps 4s for the fronts and it comes to $1680.

tires on this car always age out before they wear out, so my objective is to get the stickiest rubber i can since i cannot drive as well as chris harris :) and need all the help i can get.

fwiw, the tire rack rep said the slightly different tread patterns and stickiness of the michelins would not really matter much unless i was tracking it (not planning to), or driving much in the rain (no intention to).

so, what is your opinion of this ?

Mixing different tire types, even from the same manufacturer, is generally a bad idea unless recommended by the manufacturer. There is a huge difference between MPS2 and MPS4S tires. If the fronts were MP Super Sports (MPSS), the story might be different since they are very similar, but most pros would not recommend those, either.

I wouldn’t mix and match either. It will change the handling and balance of the car considerably and even in spirited drives it could catch you out.
