The interesting thing is that he is a great communicator, as it comes across on his YT channel. As fun as it was to watch him on the track, his live commentary would have been a good addition to TopGear. That being said, the way he took the F40 around Circuit Florida, you could tell it was the Stig without needing the white helmet.
I actually let my son get the hot laps in with him. I may or may not regret that now that I'm thinking back to the opportunity . I tried posting videos but they are too big for Fchat. They are on my IG.
Thank you. It was a very special moment that was definitely not lost on him. He still talks about it! Sorry for hijacking this thread. I did end up getting a short clip of his driving onto Youtube. https://youtube.com/shorts/iULVLfjgD8k?si=-y8OP1Um0yFbolg6
That JayEmm vid was quickly knocked out just to make the most of the press attention of the two F40s getting damaged in recent weeks, and get himself some clicks. "Old cars are crap (hardly headline news) but we love them" should have been the title. Their true value is the figure reached when they hit the bottom of the depreciation curve, they have not got better after that, every penny in excess of that sum is fueled by pure nostalgia. No one is twisting buyers arms though, their money their choice.
Disagree completely. True value is not a single number which is correct or incorrect. Value changes over time and is determined by transactions, regardless of the emotions of bystanders.
Broad Arrow is bringing US-spec #86620 to Amelia Island next month. This car was previously sold by Gooding at the same location 2 years prior. BAG must concur with Ross that the market is going up on F40s. Their estimate is $3,800,000 - 4,200,000 USD, whereas this car sold for $3,085,000 in 2023 - which I thought was a bit soft at the time given the mileage and late 2022 results. 12 miles have been added since, now at only 1,248. This will be another interesting like-for-like test of the market, something we had plenty of in 2024 with examples returning to auction from 2021-2023. The car did get Platinum at the FCA Annual Meet since its last offering. https://www.broadarrowauctions.com/vehicles/am25_r182/1990-ferrari-f40 https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1990-ferrari-f40-1a/ Photo Broad Arrow Group Image Unavailable, Please Login
Been over in Europe the last couple of days looking at a couple of F- cars, they have all put on serious money in the last 18 months.. seems no one over here is selling.. an F40 at 4 million starts making a F50 at 7 look good value.. very interesting times.
LOL. thats my F40 (me sat in bare chassis), James has used the pic from my IG in his video. Rebuild starts very soon on it, just tracking down a few more parts still needed. Car is a 1990 Cat/ Non Adjust. I know Ben Collins quite well and already chatted to him about filming and driving the 40 with me when the car is finally back on the road.... should be some fun.
That actual F40 belongs to a friend of mine. His first drive was driving from the UK to middle France. Up to that point he had never driven a F40.
I've contacted a few shops to source a spare windshield and front lights, just in case. At this point they don't seem to be willing to let go of parts in case they need them for a restoration project. Stig and Ratarossa should make for a great video!
I think anyone with a nice F40 should try and accumulate as many parts as possible, they are becoming increasingly valuable and hard to find
You want parts? They've got the parts! Eurospares warehouses - F40 engine @ 15:40 , LM intercoolers @ 4:20 .
Yes thats me in the video (Ratarossa). I dont need engine/ gearbox etc I have all those matching number with the car.
Yes with VAT it was about £650,000. ES also had a Gearbox (used) from memory £100,000 + VAT. So £750k for both (almost $1million). I know many will say this is bonkers, however I filmed at Eurospares October 2022 and James had 3 complete engines then, 2 of which have subsequently sold at similar money, this one remaining naturally the most expensive due to its being a brand new F40 engine. Which kind of brings the thread back on topic, because as the market rises on F40 values, you are also seeing F40 parts increase inline at the same rate. I remember the days when you could pick up an F40 for the price of a now used gearbox !!!
"fairly confident in saying, the only place in the world where you can get one" (new F40 engine). Well, there are a few more brand new ones for sale (but not in the UK)
fwiw, i have been offered 2 complete f40 engines over the last 6 months and they were both about 500k euros.
in 2020 for £77500 - a bargain! FERRARI F40 ENGINE - 1,000KM FROM NEW for sale by auction in Copenhagen, Denmark
