101 Race starts at 1:30 (moved up an hour, I think) and rain is supposed to start at 3. I’m 70 miles north of Daytona and it’s raining sideways here
And the irony is they moved it up to 1:30 to begin with, long ago, because the PRIOR few races had rain come late in the race when they started at 5:30. But in Florida, and at a NASCAR race, he is among 95% friends. Maybe more.
this year was supposed to be either 2 or 2:30 start time but they moved it up on Friday to 1:30 because of the forecast (and/or Trump's visit, who knows). best laid plans I guess the storm that came through is the bottom edge of the jet stream cold front across the country, not the usual Florida afternoon popup showers.
I thought it was moved up when the schedule was first made, I heard someone say that on sports radio on Thursday: 'it looks like NASCAR learned from the prior few years....' they said.
Hey - I just got a WILD idea... it's so innovative that I'm absolutely CERTAIN that no one else has thought of it before: Instead of having three ******* freakin' hours of pre-race coverage under perfect skies before the race - why don't we just do away with all that crap & start the race three hours earlier??!!??
I really don't understand why they don't do that, you'd think the broadcasters (who are what really matter) would want to show the race in their designated window, even if it means starting (really) early although in this case even if they started at 11:30 I don't think they would have gotten to halfway.
FWIW: Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date there could be another cell going over the track around 6, but if it misses they can get the whole race in tonight.
Probably 10 years ago a very proper female friend of mine was here. She was born and raised in South Africa. VERY continental. She wanted to experience American racing. I have had seats for the Daytona for years so I told her I would take her. We got to the venue and came to the first huge line of porta potties. I told her she should go because this is the last chance before we get inside..... I actually have seats in the trioval seating area with private restrooms but I wanted her to get the full experience. She was SO mad at me. She said she did NOT appreciate going in a portaloo.
It IS a key part of the success of NASCAR racertainment, yah? Stage racing, 'debris on the backstretch' phantom yellows, etc.....red neck live interactive soap opera. NASCAR has led the way, others have followed.
