Hi all New member here (first post ) after reading for a while. I've recently ordered a Roma Spider here in the UK (ordered this month Feb 2025, delivery Aug/Sep 2025). I wanted to ask about the break-in or running-in period. The dealer I ordered from said it's not really needed anymore because of the testing done at the factory. Wanted to hear your thoughts on whether this was the case as I've never heard anything like this before. Is it different for the modern cars nowadays vs. ones from the past because of what the dealer said?
Dealer BS. From a digital Roma owner's manual, page 150, and I bolded the important bits. Running-in The latest manufacturing techniques have allowed us to achieve high precision and accuracy levels in the construction and assembly of components. Nonetheless, the vehicle movable parts undergo a settling process, basically during the first hours of operation. Engine and transmission Avoid exceeding 5,000 RPM for the first 1,000 km. After starting, do not exceed 4,000 RPM until the engine has warmed up (oil temperature: 65-70 °C).
That's super helpful, thanks!! I'm gonna look for the Roma Spider Manual PDF on here as I think I saw it once - it's not in the My Ferrari app for me yet.
Additionally, you should also break in the brakes. Make long slow stops (avoid hard braking) for the first 1000 miles.
Hope this is not stepping too far in the breaking-in period issues, but since you write this is your first sports/supercar please do pay attention to breaking in the driver. At least in the area where I live, there are sad moments where people use their cars beyond their skill level to their detriment. I can point to several locations where Ferrari drivers lost their lives on regular streets. Enjoy the drive!
To take this a number of steps further, this web site has a detailed approach to bedding in the brake pads and rotors.
