Also make sure you follow the labels on the SA and not the RCA color. (check the L/R fade if you don't believe me) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, unfortunately we could not spec out board level RCA connectors with swapped colors. Like @Sj_engr says, follow the nomenclature and you'll be fine.
Sorry if someone already answered this..but what else do you need to purchase for install of this system? Just picked up one from Walmart. Will any car stereo shop have what’s need for clean install? Thanks!!
Which OEM audio setup do you have? (i.e. base, HiFi, Bose, ...) We can let you know which cable you need to order from Amazon.
For a clean plug and play setup, i think scuderia audio has factory radio harness pigtails you can use to wire into the deck so that its a simple clean remove/replace and you aren't splicing into your factory harness.
Is this the equivalent of the pigtail shown in previous posts from Discount Car Stereo? https://a.co/d/8NVmX2m Image Unavailable, Please Login
You can get these harness adapters from amazon or ebay for under $10. No need to pay the Ferrari markup on these.
The non-Bose HiFi connector should be https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CTMJP4T You will also need an antenna adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CYX2SM2 You don't need to worry about bothering with the GPS antenna; the radio doesn't use it with the current software. It uses the antenna in your phone.
[QUOTE=" You don't need to worry about bothering with the GPS antenna; the radio doesn't use it with the current software. It uses the antenna in your phone.[/QUOTE] Now you tell me!
Hello all, Greg here, new owner of a 2003 360 Modena--my dream car! I've been away from F-Chat for a decade, after selling my 328GTB in 2015 (new baby/relocating, etc). Now in Austin, and pulled the trigger last week on a beautiful Silver 360 coupe--it has the base Becker radio--as far as I can tell. So, the OE Becker radio is useless as we all know. Arcane controls, so-so sound. A search for a suitable single-DIN CarPlay unit took me right back to F-Chat where I used to hang out for years! I bought the Power Akoustic CarPlay head-unit from my local Walmart---and on the advice of this thread, I bought the Red Wolf harness adapter, the one with wire ends, not RCA, as I have the base 360 radio system. I also bought the antenna adapter, rear license plate mount camera and visor hands-free mic, which I am reading will probably not work! :-( So-I have some questions! I hope to get some good advice from you all, as you have "been there and done this mod"! 1) My car only has the door speakers w/ tweeters; there are no rear speakers, no subwoofer enclosure, no amp hanging below the radio console. This is a base Becker system, right? Is this a 2-channel system, not 4? The tweeters simply split off the door speakers, right? They probably have a crossover, but there's no separate channel for them, right? I ask because all 8 speaker wires are in the black connector and running back into the dash. (more about wire color/pin assignment discrepancies later). This base system is powered off the built-in amp in the Becker head unit, right? No external amp? Are the rear speaker connections ran to the back of the car but terminated--not in use--on the base radio system? 2) The black connector socket B-with the speaker wires-all have color assignments different from the Red Wolf adapter. I suppose I could just override the color match and wire the correct way, but surprised this Becker adapter is so wrong--all the colors are mis-assigned. the Red Wolf model is the one linked earlier in the thread--see pic. 3) Even more disturbing, and hard to explain--the white connect socket A--the power/amp on/illum/ground connector--is ALL out of whack! the wires in this connector seem to have been moved. There is electrical tape on lots of these wires but not sure why. Something was done to this sound system by a former owner, but no idea what. I was fortunate to buy a 360 with all the books, so I have the "Hi-Fi System" manual, and it provides connection instructions on p. 120. However, it does not provide wire color--so it's a bit confusing. The Red Wolf adapter has 5 wires in that lower part of the connector, and they are NOT matching the car's connector wire configuration. I'm going to attach photos and a drawing I made to hopefully explain better. Basically the RedWolf has wires on pins 4-5-6-7-8. Pins 1-2-3 are empty. The OEM connector socket A has wires on pins 1-2-4-5-7-8. 3 and 6 are empty. Weird. The odd thing, and the million-dollar question is, how did the Becker OEM radio behave normally if the white connector wires were re-configured?? 4) What to do with wiring in the smaller, colored upper connectors--yellow/green/blue? My yellow connector is empty, green has 5 wires, blue has 5 wires. I know the middle green connector is for the CD changer control, which I do not have, but what of the wires in the blue connector? The book says these are for phone and CD functions--so I doubt they are a concern for an aftermarket install. 5) I bought an aftermarket amp with the hope to install it (not sure where yet!) to improve sound further. I may have to replace door speakers as well, I need to dig in and see what's actually in there. I can't move further until I. understand what each wire is and why they seem to be in the wrong location, as documented in the Hi-Fi System manual, and not matching the Red Wolf Becker adapter. So--it's obvious the wires on these connectors were at one point cut and spliced into something else, but they appear to have been returned to a somewhat normal state, except for the white connector pin config. ?? Sorry for the novel-length post but I'm sincerely hoping a kind soul out there will chime in and offer some useful info! Oof, that's quite a mess the previous guy made for you. I can tell you right now they had no idea what they were doing and just hacked things up royally so it's going to be a mystery on what the intent was. 1st rule of car stereo is never cut the factory harness. Anyway, you're here and your radio was working so that's a plus. The small connectors are for accessories and you'll likely not use them at all so just tuck them away. Also, a number of the wires in the main harness were for various functions that you may not know you're missing depending on what your setup was like. For instance, rear speakers, amp, power antenna, etc. That could account for the odd wiring from your plug versus the adapter. Also, it seems someone ran new wires to the speakers instead of using the factory harness wires. They either did not know which ones worked or there were other issues. That also might explain some of the cut wires. If this were my car, I'd start by ripping out all of the work the previous guy did down to the speaker wires and attempt to save the factory harness. Do proper solder joints with heat shrink for anything that was previously cut and mended and get rid of all that cheap electrical tape. I've attached a PDF for the wiring harness which should have the radio connectors on it. Trace or test your speaker wires to make sure they weren't cut somewhere behind the dash or messed with and reconnect them. Only after everything is put back as it should have been would it be a good idea to move forward. Otherwise you're just building on top of patches and shoddy work and you never know what's not going to work or what's missing.
Thank you both for the quick responses. So--does my base system have an amp hidden behind the glove box? Or is it head-unit powered? Is this base system a 2-channel or 4-channel system? Gotta be 2, right? Do I need to remove the glove box to reveal the entire picture? I'm unable to see where all the wires are heading. Based on my handwritten diagram, would you say the black speaker connector wires were reconfigured? I certainly know the white power connector was. Although electrical tape abounds, it looks like both sides of the taped sections are color-matching, so I think they were probably spliced-into, but not necessarily re-assigned at the connector pin level--at least the black speaker connector. the white power connector--al bets are off! I'm going to consult Goggles Pisano's wiring diagram, should be a big help--thank you! Do I have the correct Red Wolf adapter--? I would need to re-pin the white connector to match its pin config. My end desire is to get the PA head unit installed, and possibly my new power amp as well--so I would end up connecting speakers to the amp--and use the PA's pre-amp RCA outputs to power the amp-- it's a 4-channel amp so I would just use half of it--or return it and get a 2-channel amp, as I have no plans for rear speakers. I can't do any of the above until I know what the heck is going on with the white connector-- Greg
GogglesPisano--I examined your wiring diagram very closely--I see on page 16 it lists some radio wiring for connectors 19C, 20C, and 21C, but those physical connector diagrams are not shown. No mention of the speaker wiring config. Should be a couple 8-pin connectors for the radio hookup, no? Upon closer examination of all the wires on both connectors--the electrical tape is simply indicating splices/taps into these wires--they were not cut or re-assigned, just tapped into, for God knows what! So the bigger question is--why was the white OE connector re-pinned, and how do I reconcile this white connector with my Red Wolf adapter, as they have different pin configs. I was hoping to see both 8-pin radio connectors and their correct color assignment, which would allow me to deduce each wire's actual function. This diagram may not include wiring diagram for the base 360 coupe's base sound system. Can you please assist further in helping me understand the 2 radio connectors' correct color wiring scheme? Perhaps I've missed this in the 80-page document? MANY THANKS! Greg
Kind of hard to tell with the wire ends hanging loose in your pictures. Not sure if they're cut/poorly spliced/etc. I think without you removing all the tape, getting rid of any spliced in connections, it's going to be hard to give you a proper answer. I don't have a 360 so this harness is unfamiliar to me. I found the PDF just by searching. I'd recommend doing the same and see if you can dig up a better illustration. @Sj_engr or @SoftwareDrone are going to be the real experts here. However, if you're going to use an amp, you only need a few things from your car's harness: 12v constant, 12v switched, illumination, power antenna, ground. The rest are not used as it will be connections between your head unit harness and amp directly. Rear speakers will not be used on your amp unless you're doing some crazy 8 or 2 ohm setup which is likely not the case. If you're planning on running the amp through your factory wires though, you'll need to better diagnose what's going on. Like I mentioned, I'm not a 360 owner but I know that OEM wiring almost never uses the standard grey/purple/green/white wires like you have going to your speakers. Those were probably ran separately and you likely have loose speaker wires dangling somewhere in your dash. Someone more knowledgeable can correct me.
Goggles--great info thanks--I edited my last post--the wires on both connectors are simply spliced into, they don't appear to be cut or re-assigned. I'll do a search for the proper color-coding for the 360 radio's connectors--that will reveal a lot. Would have been nice if the Hi-Fi manual would have provided wire colors-- You are thinking the weird speaker wire colors are non-standard from OE? Hmm--I'll try to dig deeper- Do I need to remove the 360 glove box to truly reveal everything? :-O I still am faced with the challenge of re-pinning either the OE connector(s) or the Red Wolf adapter, to make the power side match up-- TY Greg
UPDATE: I did a search and found on here an older thread concerning 360 radio wiring. Turns out my 2 radio connectors are 100% correct. The wire colors and pin configs on both 8-pin connectors are both correct. Nobody moved anything, they just spliced into some connections. Which means, my Red Wolf adapter is the wrong one. Anybody have any other radio harness adaptor suggestions? Trying to avoid spending $60 on the Scuderia Audio one-but I will if I have to--if it's guaranteed to fit my connectors.
Neither Metra or Crutchfield list any Ferrari radio harness adapter..Ferrari is not available in the "make" dropdown-- :=(. The Metra adapter 70-1783 showed up first in the results list, but a close look reveals the bottom pins do not match the 360-- The hunt continues-
https://scuderiaaudio.com/product/head-unit-wiring-harness/ That's softwaredrone. I would make friends with him
Thanks Goggles--actually, I just hung up with Mike a Scuderia Audio--very cool guy--we conversed about his harness and turns out--it too has the same (non-matching) pinout as my Red Wolf! It does not match my OE connectors--the white one to be specific. My connectors may be different as it's a 2003 360, the last of the model years. I'll attach the picture proving me out--they are coded 3D--188897. My white connector has 6 wires, not 5 like the earlier 360-- See pic--ignore the left side of image, my connectors are on the right side coded 188897. Not sure what the left side connectors are for--maybe the Hi-Fi model?
That's odd, unless that particular model used a Becker unit that was setup differently which wouldn't make sense. Manufacturers aren't typically in the business of changing things up if they can help it especially since this would likely be directed from Becker versus Ferrari. It could very well be that the previous owner de-pinned the harness and didn't put it back correctly. Do you know what wires are not matching up? Do you have a multimeter? I would start tracing wires to see if things were incorrectly pinned on the harness connector. It's easy enough on a stereo harness.
