I was on the market for my first Ferrari, and a local Ferrari dealership had a Portofino that caught my eye. I originally found it on Car Gurus where the ad included CarPlay as an option. When I called the dealer, we had a long conversation about how this will be my daily driver so CarPlay was a necessity. During my visit to the showroom, the sales guy I was working with also mentioned -- to my surprise -- that the car had heated seats.

A week later I came back to sign the paperwork but my sales guy wasn't in, so a different sales person finished up the paperwork. When I was ready to drive the car home, I got into the Portofino and plugged in my iPhone, but nothing happened. Hmm.. I called over the sales guy and he confirmed the vehicle DID NOT have CarPlay or the heated seats.

I made it clear to him I didn't care about the heated seats but the CarPlay option was a huge deal to me. He asked if I wanted to reverse the deal or to take the car home and figure it out with my sales guy. They made it sound like there's a way to add the option and they would probably eat the cost since it was their fault. I said sure, and drove home.

Now my sales guy says since it's not an "official Ferrari" part they can't pay for it or have it installed for me and I'm on my own. Sales manager never called me back and doesn't answer when I call the dealership. I'm conflicted on whether I should leave a bad review because I had a great overall experience, but as a first time buyer I expected the sales people to know what they're selling and to stand behind the sale of a $200,000+ vehicle. What would you guys do in my situation?

Bad assumption unfortunately.....you needed to be the one to verify the options. Any why did you not verify that before purchase while you were with it?

As far as what to do now, you can either undo the sale (if your state allows for that, in Texas you get 3 days), live with it, or find a workaround. For example, on my DD, CarPlay isn't available but there is a $70 dongle you can buy off Amazon to give you wired CarPlay. If you decide to keep it, you can see if they have one for a PF.

I wish it only took a dongle. The CarPlay module is around 1K plus 2-3 hours of installation. And I did test the sound system via bluetooth prior to purchase, but we didn't have a wire to test the carplay.

    Definitely learned a lesson here.

Take it back and get a refund you were mis sold it i wouldn’t be happy , if you like your music and car play etc then it’s a must , seems like they lied to get a deal .
Don’t they all come with heated seats tho ?
You should have checked the spec there’s a plaque in the boot apple car play would be stamped on there and be the first option on the list
If they won’t have it back leave a bad review. Then search for one with the options you want

Adding CarPlay is possible, but it’s not an official Ferrari ad on. I have a 2020 Portofino that I ordered in 2019 and don’t have CarPlay because I don’t like it and because, in 2019, it was a $7000 option which I thought was nuts. If you like the rest of the car I’d keep it and enjoy it. But if the CarPlay thing is going to gnaw at you, then get out of it and find something else.

Return it and find a different one, it's not as if Porto's are rare.

FWIW, my Porto which was loaded w options didn’t come with it. It did have the Hi-Fi option which was important to me. My wife’s RR has it and I think it’s a pain in the a**.
If it’s the right car who cares ,apple car play is more of a distraction than useful to me. I have enough Apple crap in my life anyway. I don’t want or need it in my cars.
Again just my humble opinion. Best , Kirk.

I think you're missing the point of CarPlay, if you have CarPlay your multimedia never gets old. Your screen is eventually going to become a useless eyesore like the early californias, if you have CarPlay that won't happen. Also having a navigation/maps app which alerts you of road hazards and speed traps in a Ferrari is pretty damn useful.

Again a Porto isn't rare where you need to compromise on it, especially if you paid Ferrari dealer prices on a lie. You should get what you want, not settle.

Like I said before, just my humble opinion. Some of us could care less about CarPlay than others. I personally don’t care for it and did not order it in my F8 spider either. Again, JMHO.

If it's only $1500 or so...just add it. On an expensive daily, what's another $1500 or so?

When I ordered my 2019 Portofino Carplay was a $4200 option. Do you have the ad saying your car has it?

Got it....but the OP very specifically did care about it and the thread is about his situation, not the merits of carplay.

I had to the same struggle when I was searching for my Portofino. I have Apple CarPlay on all of my other cars and it has proven to be extremely useful. However, it is my weekend car, so I ended up taking a compromise and got one that checked all the other boxes and in Rosa Corsa at a good price.

After I got the car, I started looking into aftermarket options, mostly adding the media box (~$1k). However, the installation requires taking apart the dash so I gave up that idea as I don’t want to remove any parts and possibly void the 2 years extended warranty due to an unofficial part and installation.

Music is not an issue for me as the phone is connected to the car over Bluetooth, so the playlist is always updated. So the HiFi option is more important Navigation might be an issue if you need to use it very often. The native one on the car is pretty poor. I ended buying a phone holder that fit in the cup holder to address the navigation issue.

Between, the original Apple CarPlay is not full screen I believe. So it will look outdated compare to all the new cars that have full screen Apple CarPlay (at least for me). Whereas the aftermarket one is full screen, much better in my opinion.

You do not have the pull the dash to add a CarPlay unit for your car. The head unit is to the left of the glove box on this model. If you remove your glove box you can then remove the head unit to add a plug and play CarPlay unit.
I have a late model Roma without CarPlay, to add I purchase a plug and play unit. My head unit is located under the steering column.

Thanks, yea I saw some videos on YouTube. Not very comfortable to let a random installer removing parts. I would definitely do it if I can find a reliable installer.
