They don't publicly post seller fees, but I think buyer's premium was another $68k for $698k. VIN ZFF75VFA1E0202982. Not sure why sellers use these auction formats seems they can do much better elsewhere...

Gooding sold ZFF75VFA1E0203307 for $676k after buyer's premium ($610k before). Chicago Motor Cars was asking $900k last month. https://bid.goodingco.com/lots/view/1-A606YC/2014-ferrari-458-speciale

$759,500 and $698,000 for two launch spec Speciales sold in the last week. Not bad.

  6. This is exactly why using "for sale" prices is meaningless when it comes to resale value or market value of cars.

    We need actual transaction prices.

While auctions are from a perfect reflection of the market, it is at least one data point. Which is better than "for sale" prices, which isn't even "data".

Also important is in auction settings a no sale high bid is not that useful given chandelier bidding and those highs may not be actual buyers willing to pay that much.

Btw, do dealers still typically charge sellers 6% for consignment fees for cars in this price range? I'm not understanding why these are going to auctions in the year 2025 given how high fees can be on both ends for the buyer and seller...huge spread auction houses take imo. A black CS sold for $199k hammer ($223k after 12% buyer's premium) at Amelia as well and I think it was a local Orlando owner near me based on service history...I am wondering why they didn't just list the car on Fchat at that price...crazy.

  8. Not sure about OEM dealers, but for places like Merit Partners the total costs of consigning a car with them (nonrefundable consignment fee plus whatever markup they add on the sale price) is probably higher, on a net basis, than what you would get at an online auction site like BAT or CB. But Merit may be an outlier, as they generally deal with only high end cars.

What do you recommend then? There does seem to be a half dozen or so of "recognized" auction house names. Seems like some specialize in more of certain types of cars. It looks like it depends on the venue and time of year also. Is that correct?

I think the best sales would be private transactions through connections. Second would be using a broker/dealer/consignment to advertise the car. And last resort to me would be auction as it can't move otherwise. I apply that for not just cars, but also business deals/jobs, homes, collectibles, etc. Like that black CS that sold for $199k hammer, I wondered why the owner didn't come on Fchat and post it. It would get good exposure among many interested users and probably sell quickly at that price unless there was something it has making an auction format easier to get rid of it as buyers have less flexibility in inspection/research. I would only buy at auction if it truly is a one of kind car that can't be purchased elsewhere.

Btw in the supercars subforum a user stated there are something like six 250 GTO for sale privately. I think that is usually the preferred method with auction last resort.

Private sale is always a great way to start -- the less time the car spends sitting on the public open market, the better.

Although, publicly listing can also have satisfactory results if the car is priced very well from the beginning, and marketed properly, with good attention to detail from the selling dealer or representative (not always a given).

On Autotrader (U.S.) I see 2 SA’s and 3 coupes for sale. A white coupe with 1600 miles is asking $759k with a $337k MSRP.

Seems like in 10 years time speciales have gone up 100%. I wonder if pista will follow the same trends.

No. Speciales have gone up 100% in 5 yrs, not 10. Pistas won't do same. Too many. And not as Speciale.

Not sure that is accurate. Pista Spider MSRP was about 350k. There are multiple listed on the Pre Own Ferrari site for 850k+. Even if they actually trade for $700K which is 150k less than asking, its still double MSRP in 4-5 years.

In US, there are currently 34 (thirty-four) Pistas for sale, and 2 (two) Speciales for sale.

I'm not talking Spiders, I'm talking Coupes.

In 2021 a 300 mile Speciale Coupe priced at $375k. Today same car, same miles, prices at +100%+.

ok fine, so there are 16 Pistas listed for roughly 575k+ all the way up to 800k. Original MSRP at 315k. Silly to say they won’t reach the same value in another 5-10 years.

not taking anything away from the speciale either. I plan to own one at some point. I had a pista spider which was phenomenal and would imagine the speciale is even better. Just don’t see a world where the pista value doesn’t continue to climb like it has historically.

I think with the newer EV models, its almost certain to climb. Speciales will always be special as the last NA v8. With the new 296VS being hyrbid/EV theres no doubt pista/speciale will remain special.
