    Hi everyone,

weather finally broke in upstate New York and I was able to fire up the 488 and get it ready for spring. This is the first winter I have lived with the car so I don’t fully know its quirks. Car started right up no issues (new battery installed in November. Still need to take to dealer to reset al the ecus). Car seemed to idle fine and when I blipped the throttle the car stalled out and shut off. Very odd. It started up again no issues and I couldn’t replicate the issue. Should I chalk this up as it’s been sitting all winter or is there something I should look into?

I have no experience with winter storage, but doesn't 488 have auto start stop? Not sure on protocol, rhyme or reason as it relates to A/S/S

Going from my Speciale to 812 SF I have to get used to turning it off every time I start the car

The 488 doesn’t come with the auto stop/start feature

My 2019 488 had a start/stop function. It had to be disabled after each start-up.

Mine is a 2016. I don’t think it was available then

It may vary across markets. Here in the UK my 2017 has it and a friend's 2016 also does. Once you disable it however, it defaults to off.

My September 2015 488 (one of the first then) has the start stop system, known as the infamous HELE. It could be turned off once and for all; in a subsequent year (not sure which one) they changed to a setup that put it back to on at each startup (so it has to be disabled each time). I think it has become a mandatory requirement in the EU.
Initially the HELE was described as optional but I think it was actually installed on all cars (but that might have been the case only in the EU).
If it's there (at least on early cars, when it was supposed to be optional), it should be mentioned on the specification plate.
Seems to me the OP's question is unrelated though; I would not be very concerned since that could just be a glitch in the "reset" procedure after a long inactivity.

Thank you. I assumed it was a random "glitch". I know the EU 488s have the Start/Stop, but I am in the States and mine does not have the feature.

Mine doesn't have the most graceful start ups when it's been sitting. Especially during these cold months. I wouldn't worry about it.

    Get those faults cleared!

The 2019 488GTB I had...build was October 2018 DID NOT have the auto start/stop on it.

Did you take the car out for a drive?

I did not yet. Still some salt on the road. I got tired of looking at my cars all winter and wanted to feel like i accomplished something by starting them up and moving them out of the garage for a bit.

You probably do not have to clear the codes. Drive it for a while and they will likely clear themselves after restarting. Maybe a couple of times. I have had some strange things happen after a low battery, all fixed on their own.

i wish that were the case. I drove it twice before i put the car away and restarted it many times and all the lights are still there. Talked to the dealer and they said the computers needed to reset.

I have a '17 488 for 5 years in/out of storage and have not experienced this. Couple basic questions:
    - what is your storage routine? Mine includes over inflating tires, tire cradles, fuel stabilizer, battery tender
Based on your description the first thing that popped into my mind was that perhaps you didn't add stabilizer to the tank and slosh it around before storing the car?
If I'm right, I recommend you just get the codes cleared, add some stabilizer now and run that old gas out asap. Then, copy my storage routine going forward ;-)

My storage was fill up the tank, park it in garage, and hook up the tender. i started it a few times and no issues after, but i will definitely do what you do next winter.
