Latest Update: Still waiting on engine parts. Hopefully things will be ready in the next two weeks... As I am waiting I decided to do something about all the sticky buttons and bits on the interior of the car. I sent everything off to be recoated...super frustrated as I cleaned the HVAC controls all the knobs broke (but I thought I could work around or find replacements), but as I was doing a final wipe of the HVAC control face the white of the controls started coming off. It's $800 to have them recoated and laser etched, so that really sucks for a minor annoyance. Anyways things are coming along. Finished all the heat shields and the car is just about prepped for the engine to drop in. I also re-booted most the electrical (ran out of small boots, so waiting on parts again). I keep going back and forth of changing the clutch...last report was it had 68% life, so it's really hard to drop another $3k on something that's not broken. Where do you get the small boots from? I have been meaning to replace the many split boots in my engine bay but have never found any.
Just did a re-finish not that long ago on my Granturismo. Ended up stripping with Ethanol in short bursts and then sanding and re-painting with SEM trim paint which matches factory color and finish ridiculously well. Quite a bit of labor though. Anyway, as much of a pain as it is to refinish yourself OR send it off, it'll make all the difference once you have it all back in and the interior is clean looks good again. As for clutch.. i'd get the thickness measurement for a new stock disc and then measure what you have left and do some math. Since you have the motor out, its a good time to do it if you need to, but i have to admit its never fun just racking up another bill on the side from an engine build when the first issue was the engine to begin with.
Nice work on the heatshields! I need to repaint my rear diffusor under the bumper because its cracked and peeling from all the heat and no heat shielding. I bought this Thermo-tec shielding to stick on https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TXQOSK , but I recall you said you had issues with stick on heat sheilding. Did you have a solution for that?
Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09X51KQ84?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Honestly, they have been a great source for most of my basic parts, and https://www.mscdirect.com for nuts and bolts.
Yeah, I'm just going to use some spray on glue I bought on Amazon...I think it's a 3M brand. Haven't seen if it works, but I'll get there...eventually...
The best they could tell it was starved of oil at some point. There was scoring on several of the bearings, so it wasn't an isolated blockage. The the oil pump could have had a problem or maybe the damage to my oil tank orifice has something to do with it...not really sure, but it's coming along. Update 3.24.25: I find myself asking "What did I get my self in to!?!". Several internal conversations. Me: "Stop taking things off and finding problems..." Myself: "But the car is not moving, so now is the time to fix stuff like sticky door handles and dash vents" Me: "It doesn't have to be perfect..." Myself: "But if it's broken it needs to be fixed..." Me: "Why are none of the parts available for purchase!" Myself: "I can just make them..." Myself: "I'm tired of make stuff...why can't I just buy a freaking $60 speaker anymore!!!" Then I find myself saying "**** It! I'm buying an F8 and going to Italy to pick it up." You bought an F8 in Italy randomly? Man, sometimes I am amazed that I get to even be in this club with you guys. Haha.
Unfortunately, no. I just rented one while in Italy last summer, and thought this was a good place/time to post the photo. Back to my reality I am cleaning gunk off speakers to fix them, because I can't find ones to replace them... Nice work on the speakers! We have Mike (@SoftwareDrone) the resident Ferrari speaker expert, if you wanted to upgrade: https://scuderiaaudio.com/
I recently repaired a 12" sub that I had from high school. Works great with the new foam ring. Amazing the change in amp technology these days. So tiny and powerful now. Not hot/bulky. I recommend Mike's superamp if you have the HiFi option. Looks like he just added an amp option for LoFi too.
I looked at the scuderiaaudio stuff and it's more then I want to pay right now. I just need something that works...maybe once I get rolling again I might change my mind, but I'm in the if it's not broken leave that $#@! alone stage!
Thinking of Broken things! The head lamp and clock had a sticky glue all around them, and found the plastic that held the spring latch was broken off. So I printed a new piece of plastic and epoxied it on, then drilled a hole, so I can attach a microphone for my Bluetooth add on. The paint was chipped and looked awful, so I repainted it black...it doesn't quite match, but looks a thousand times better then silicone glue leaking out of everything. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149308644/ I recently replaced the factory speakers with some Focals. They sound great. It was cheap too, ~$100 a pair
UPDATE 4/21/2025...Still waiting on a Piston head and Piston sleeve to be shipped from Italy...so I decided to try my hand at working with Carbon Fiber! I really wanted a one piece Dash Vent for the front...and preferably one that doesn't have thin plastic tubes that seem prone to breaking, so I designed and molded a one piece Carbon vent cover with stainless screws to attach to the dash. This is my first one, so let me know what you guys think!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice! Little wavy, but I can't imagine it's easy at all to work around all those opening molds. Solid first go.
