Coming into this conversation somewhat late, I have a 2010 California and I'm looking for one of these Ctek adaptors. I'm assuming the 4-pin is what I need. Are they still available?

What is the difference between the 4pin and the magnetic connector types in terms of functionality? Can you convert from 4 pin to magnetic (ie change the car side connector?)

Could any of these adapters be retrofitted to an earlier car? I have a 360 but like the size of the CTEK (currently use a larger brick one, Schumacher something)...

The 4 pin has a mechanical interface mechanism and the magnetic connector is solely held in place by the magnets. The 4 pin will also trigger a warning light on the dash and prevent the car from starting when it’s connected. You could swap the car side connector if you really wanted to, but it’s not a plug and play job.

The magnetic adapter is more easily retrofittable, however it's not a plug and play DIY. It would also require non-reversible modifications to either carpeting or body panels.

Thanks, maybe I stay with the pigtail connection I have today and maybe try to update to a smaller sized charger from the Schumacher one I have right now...
