    Hi,

I’ve read, watched and listened to many threads on here and YouTube over the last few years, with different exhaust setups for the Speciale.

Is there a standout preferred exhaust for an “F1 like” sound for the 458 / Speciale? Novitec, Capristo, etc

This is probably my favourite so far, but never heard of the brand -

Thank you in advance to any recommendations

I put a full Kline Inconel on mine. Worth every penny. But what matters most is getting an X-pipe to replace the H-pipe. The rest is arguably a matter of taste.

FYI, a full Kline Inconel required an extra month and custom software. The tuner's Italia tunes left a check engine light.

I’ve posted a few times on this topic and will stand by my IPE fully system headers/decat/exhaust.

I know Josh pretty well at Boden Autohaus and he’s done several exhausts for my cars. In fact, I’ve had his titanium exhaust and decat on my previous SA and it was loud! .. a bit too loud for a convertible. He’ll hate me for saying this but I still love my IPE setup on my coupe.

Thank you. A few questions :)

01 - Do they need the car in order to supply an exhaust (some fabricators prefer measuring each car individually)?

02 - Does the exhaust setup throw any warnings or errors on the dashboard?

    1. Nope, many exhausts have been made for this car.

    2. CEL will show if you install headers and decat,… a tune will delete CEL. Sport cat may trigger CEL …has 200 cell Kline cat on FF and it would go off every once in a while - I just cleared it with an OBD scanner after reading code.

Can someone explain something to me. Speciale is the car I’ve been hunting for like 2 years. I was about to pull the trigger on one but it got sold out from under me while trying to get a PPI literally 3 days before that damn Sothebys auction sent prices into the stratosphere.

But I digress. All I hear about is the engine note on the 458 and especially the Speciale. Last NA V8. Arguably the best ever etc. So why change the exhaust if the sound is one of the biggest draws for this car. I get it on the F8 or 488 or V12’s with GPF etc but why the speciale. Genuine question…..

I had both. Italian sounds better. Not that Speciale is bad, but just a bit off. If I got another 458 I’d make it even louder because it can and sounds epic.

I have an interesting story and view on this…

I have also been in the market for the last 2 years, and also had one sold on me while I was in the air flying to another country to buy it.

However, I finally managed to find another one that ticked all of my boxes 2 weeks ago…

I took a very strange approach to buying the car, because it has been such a dream car for me. I never drove a Speciale and I wouldn’t even drive a 458 when offered a recent test drive, because I was so fixated on my first drive being the Speciale I buy (which was always going to need to pass Ferrari’s 190 check before I buy it… and not my limited mechanical pre purchase assessment).

So, quite a crazy, but not silly (as Ferrari gave it the all clear) way to buy a car.

I’ve worshipped the Speciale since it came out. I still think it is one of the most beautiful looking cars in the world.

    Then… collection day…

I started it up for the first time when I picked it up… and I thought there was something broken. It was extremely quiet. I was really really disappointed with the sound as I was waiting to hear what I thought was going to be a burbling V8 Ferrari.

I have a few other cars in my garage, including a 911 S/T, Huracan EVO, and my wife’s Cayenne.

ALL of these cars, including my Cayenne sound better than the 458 Speciale on startup (IMO).

The Speciale needs to be driven up over 5,000 RPM to enjoy the car, and the car seems most comfortable up over that range.

I am in the process of fitting an exhaust valve controller so that the V8 sound is not muted by the valves on startup and when driving under 3,000 RPM. I don’t want to be racing around my town over 5,000 RPM every time to have to hear the true sound of the car.

I’m still in love with the car regardless, but I’m a little baffled how the car sounds at stock… and that the 458 Italia sounds better than the Speciale.

Few people get this reality. But rest assured a simple valve switch makes life better in the Speciale, and a real exhaust upgrade even more.
The changes made to the Speciale really clamped down the spine tingling event that the Italia is. I recall being so disappointed as well.

wow I’m honestly kind of blown away by this. I just sold my pista spider and bought an F8 spider. I wasn’t maximizing the 10-20% difference in the pista versus the F8 and I didn’t want to think about miles anymore. I buy these cars to drive. I put about 6k miles on the pista in under a year or so and the depreciation didn’t make sense versus an F8 which won’t be as impacted by 10k or so miles.

I always knew I’d have to adjust the setup for the lack of sound in the F8 and so I’m doing the exhaust and cats in 2 weeks. I did the same on my 812 and it’s a new car given how significant the change in sound has been. Just never expected the 458 or speciale would need that. So with that said, if you’re adjusting the exhaust anyway, why not just get a pista or even an F8 and do the same. Is the drive not better? I know this may be a sacrilegious statement but the pista and F8 drive is pretty outstanding.

PS- I have a cayanne GT as well and the engine sound is bananas. Not sure why Ferrari can’t do the same with their turbos
