I have been shopping for a pre-owned SF90 the last couple months and have been surprised how difficult it has been to get any Ferrari sales people motivated to sell me a car. I have been trying to negotiate since prices are falling, but we are talking around 5% difference from listing, not some crazy discounts.

My local dealership has been great, but they don't have a car for me. When I contact non official Ferrari dealerships that have sf90 inventory like ilusso, the conversations have been great, but they also don't have a spec that fits my needs.

I'm just surprised that in a market that isn't the best, Ferrari dealers don't seem to care much about how long cars have been sitting.

My guess is that Ferrari is subsidizing them in some way or form to not lower prices, but this still all feels counterintuitive. I have only reached out to three dealerships, and considering their lack of response before we even get to pricing, I almost feel like I have been blacklisted in their system. This will be my third pre-owned Ferrari, the first two purchases went great and got done within 48 yours.

I hope this post doesn't come off as me thinking I am entitled, not really disappointed by the pricing, just communication.

Just curious if anyone else is feeling the same.

If the cars are consigned they are not costing the dealers anything (i.e. no floorplan interest because the dealers do not own the cars, zero urgency to negotiate)

If the dealers own the cars outright, also no monthly payment (i.e. no urgency to move the inventory)

Above is typical for pre-owned cars at Ferrari dealers.

Dealers are willing to wait for their price or consignors price.

Sounds like you need a consigned car where the owner is willing to deal.

Your "prices are falling" observations are largely (I presume) limited to owners selling via auction which is not entirely representative of overall market (i.e. people willing to 'dump' a car to get on with life/etc)

If you are trading in a car, try to get more for your trade-in value vs dealer reducing sales price.

The SF90 is out of production and at the moment there is no replacement model, I presume once a replacement is revealed there will be more action to move inventory especially if tied to a new order.

My feeling is that today most used cars at Ferrari dealers are on consignment, specially cars that are not very easy to sell.
This has been a progressive shift in the policy - some years ago, trade-ins were common but now the prices proposed are so low that customers are encouraged to go for consignments; and in this case, as noted above, the dealer does not really care if the car does not sell.
I suppose dealers look for trade-ins only on cars in high demand, ensuring quick sales and good profits.

    Thanks, this all helps.

My prices are falling comment is coming from looking at cars.com or cargurus and seeing the month over month listing averages falling from either cars being reduced or new listings being lower. The average doesn't mean too much but it's a good baseline.

I am pretty specific on what spec I would want, so my sample case on dealers is pretty small. But considering I am pretty impulsive when it comes to the "fun" stuff in life, I do feel if communication was better I probably would have paid them what they are wanting by now.

I suspect that the dealership profits are largely based on service and new cars in the pipeline. The profit margin on a used general-production ride just isn't that great.

You state that your spec requirements are pretty specific. In that case, I'd suggest getting the car you really want and will have to live with, rather than focusing on the 5% that you'll eventually forget about anyway.

try a 296, dealers here at least have huge amounts and are offering huge discounts and special finance rates to move them

I agree with you, the 5% really doesn't matter, and maybe I even regret asking for it. Ever since I did, dealer has been unresponsive. Now I can go chase him down and force a deal to get done at their price, but this is a decent size purchase, I still would like someone on the other side that I feel will make this out of state purchase easier for me.

On just buying a spec I want and paying for it, it's not that easy. Below are two examples of similar MSRP cars. One is $100k over the other, and their is a good case to be made that because of year and mileage the lower priced one is the more desired car. There is a big disconnect on pricing.

Not for nothing but some years back I was trying to buy a car from F Palm beach and couldn’t get the salesperson to call me back after making an offer. I decided to call the GM and we got the deal done. Ps. Love the car from South Bay. If I’m reading this correctly the owner is taking more than a 200k haircut. Good luck hunting, best ,Kirk.

Just not to confuse anyone, the two cars I posted were just an example of pricing, those are not the dealerships that I was stating were not responsive.

Ended up getting the one from South Bay, they were great to deal with.

I was very close to getting a revuelto through this whole process though, since the Lamborghini dealerships were so much more responsive and were motivated to sell cars.
