I can almost hear certain people groaning about yet another mileage related post but please bear with me! For a while I had been looking at 360's but while not a deal breaker the cam belt service put me off to a large extent there, is already a needy 355 which needs belts every x number of years and the 360 is perhaps too close to that car in concept. Ok would 31000 miles be considered high for a 2005 430 spider? It does appear on the 430 there are relatively speaking fewer maintenance issues than the 360 and in general the cars are newer. Given the choice of a 31000 mile 2001 360 spider and a 31000 mile 2005 430 spider, which are you picking and why? Assume the car would be bought to drive and mileage would be covered but it would not be tracked.
Nothing wrong with that. Shows the car has been driven regularly and any common issues were likely addressed over the years. Paperwork is your friend in this case though as higher mileage ones sometimes get scooped up by someone at the top of their budget that doesn’t have any extra cash for random issues. Eventually, they pass it along with unaddressed gremlins. With any used Ferrari, I would say have a $5-10k reserve to address issues upon delivery as something always pops up that the last owner left for you.
I'd do the 430 regardless, but perhaps if the 360 is a manual it might appeal to you more? The F1 is better in the 430, obviously no belt job, more modern interior, ediff, and +100hp. The power difference can be felt even in regular driving.
360 has a lot of stuff to tackle that the 430 does not. If you prefer the 360 look then that's what you should get.
Both would be F1. My thinking is a 430 would have less potential to tackle, even less still if it were a steel brake 430 but even with carbon discs road driving should be alright. I think regardless of 360 or 430 there needs to be maintenance records or an appropriate price reduction. Skipped maintenance on a 360 does however worry me more!
If price is not a concern and both are F1 ..go for the 430 ...best value yet ..try to get a 2008 if you can
I went from an ‘04 6-speed manual 360 to an ‘06 F430 F1. I love my F430 and haven’t looked back. I think it was a large jump over the 360. FYI, it has 42,000 miles (my 360 had over 80k).
I've seen quite a price delta between 2005 and 2008. If getting a 2008 or 09 is in your budget, then definitely go for it, but that doesn't mean it won't have it's own things that need to be addressed. The 2005 is a fantastic car regardless but might have some parts that were later updated for wear/performance reasons.
