It Finally Happened: My Ferrari STRANDED Me, But What Happened Next Was Worse
Great video! Very helpful for other Maranello owners who may encounter this problem. Thank you @JayEmm!
It's a pity he didn't include the part number of the non-Ferrari servotronic valve, but it sounds like the original is repairable.
Laughed at his name for the 550. We've all owned a Judus (or two). Thankfully my 575 hasn't been one... Some real good info in there.
Pretty sure he checked in here within the last year, maybe tag him @JayEmm and he will let us know.. Edit: It was only about 2 months back: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149964934/
Seems like his car has had a lot of issues. I wonder if it’s the high mileage combined with age of the car, or he’s just been unlucky with this particular car. The 550 in general seems pretty reliable.
When 550s were inexpensive, many were not serviced or repaired completely or at very extended intervals. Couple that with no Ferrari recommendation for changing the coolant in the maintenance schedule and you can end up with a V12 that has seen a rough life. Once everything is brought up to date and fixed (Bilsteins, etc.), she usually gives very reliable service.
It would be interesting to take one apart and see how it fails. Replacing PS fluid regularly may help over the long term.
