What are your thoughts on the future of Ferrarichat?
I hope that it will reach a spiritual level of existence so I can read it from my grave. In all seriousness digital archeology is a thing and if the server still exists it will be a very interesting social museum and in many cases a knowledge base for vintage vehicles such as the 12c and the Roma…
In the feudal society that will exist in 50 years, such things as Ferrarichat will be restricted to the ruling class only.
And people will talk about depreciation and question why Ferrari would not introduce an automatic hybrid to complement its range of self driving electric cars. Porsche will have such a car of course.
It'll be three generations removed from who hangs here today. Your great grandchildren will be telling stories about the old days and gas cars, like great grandpa's red car, maybe. Assuming that there's still any interest in old internal combustion cars in 50 years. I'd have to guess it'll have morphed, just like AOL, compuserve and any number of other now 30-40 year old internet dinosaurs. But hey, who knows? If there are any 20 somethings hanging out here, they could try and keep it alive. D
I hit an old link the other day looking for something and it took me to someone’s My Space page. And College Boy is here so he can be the Elder of the Internet (10 points if someone can remember the reference….as old as My Space)
Anybody here remembers that phone modem we had just 20years ago? Yep.... and for the younger ones.... Image Unavailable, Please Login This was high tech just 40 years ago....
Yes, I remember that phone modem, and rotary phones too! I think they were of 2 different eras though as the dial-up modem belongs more to the push-button phone. But regarding F-Chat in 50 years: "....if man is still alive; If woman can survive, they may find..." (Zager and Evans ‧ 1969) You'll probably access whatever media is current via an implanted chip
I don't think that's going to happen. Personally, I think a physical device that we can hold in our hands is here to stay. There's a certain comfort in holding the device. Watch a group of teenagers today. They're all gripping their device and gesticulating with it. It's like a pack of cigs in the old days. Humans like to hold tools. An implanted device would be the ultimate government mind control method. No way to turn it off or tune it out. I think most humans will reject the idea wholesale. Personally, I see no benefit for an implant and plenty of reasons to avoid it. A personal device in 50 years will be thinner, but not much smaller. It will have a battery that lasts a year or might never need recharging. It will have a local display for privacy, and a holographic projector. It will have a dedicated AI agent that knows you better than you know yourself. Apps will be a thing of the past as your agent will be able to generate any app you want by requesting it. As for revenue model, I think ads are here to stay. How an advanced device manages advertising is going to be the real unknown here. The big tech companies are already seeing their advertising revenue plunge from use of AI search agents that present a summary with a link, rather than pages of search results with ads mimicking relevant results. I pondered on this topic a long time while writing my dystopian series of novels in the "Zen's World" universe. Imagine taking the current political environment projecting it into the future 100 years where all the grandest dreams of Project 2025 have met their inevitable conclusion. That's "Zen's World." "Zen's Solution" - Available now on Amazon "Zen's World: Survival" - In edit and available by July/25 "Zen's World: MedPod" - Coming by the end of 2025. "Zen's World: Escape" - Coming 2026 Along with my novels, I'm creating an AI based system called "Ask Zen" where users can hold a conversation with an AI agent about the novels and the canon. I should have this ready by the end of the year. I've already prototyped it in Vertex AI.
If I'm still breathing in 50 years I'll be 105. By then I think my AI personal assistant will be arguing with a few other users AI personal assistants about which oil is the best to use in an F355 (and a several other emotive subjects ). I will task my AI bot to defend my position after I'm gone...
@rob lay's body will have long given up the struggle... but he'll have transferred his consciousness into a robot body made of wood for floatation and he'll have carbon fiber spoilers generating down force. There'll be so much down force, in fact, that most of humanity's collection of written works about Rob Lay will be that if he runs fast enough, he'd stick to the roof of a tunnel. I don't want to be a jerk by circling back to the obvious, but it goes without saying that there'd be caltrops for those in the know to shuffle through. All the best, Andrew.
Dave hope all is well, it’s been way too long long! I’ve been here 22 years (my handle is ridiculous at this point obviously but I’ve had it so long it’s now absurd) I don’t know about 50 years from now, but I’m sure right now there are teenage members with dreams of one day going to college, getting a job, starting a career and real life, owning a Ferrari, etc… I was and became that guy. So I’m sure there will be some of these members still checking fchat daily like myself where it served as a way to inspire and educate during all of those times. Not sure if I will make it another 50 but I’ll give it a shot… Then there will be other passionate enthusiasts arguing about cup holders, which model is too expensive to maintain, service intervals, etc. Other people will only go in certain sections because that’s all they are interested in just like today. It’s ironic when I joined “spotters” threads were a big deal in vintage and the regional areas… Who knows though as there used to be a member that would often post in market price threads that his crystal ball was out for restoration cause it didn’t work!
