Been watching the latest installment of "Drive to Survive" on Netflix from the 2024 season.

Both Horner and Marko were having a quiet giggle to themselves about Hamilton's unexpected move to
Ferrari and goofing on Toto Wolff for being caught wrong-footed by the whole situation.

Fast forward a year and it seems Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas has landed on their feet with Antionelli
and Russell and perhaps having the last laugh considering the Red Bull driver line-up debacle.

Seems like sort of a "point one finger and have five pointing back at you" kind of thing. And, don't forget,
no matter where they are, Toto is always the smartest guy in the room boys.

Can't get off that easy. You interjected that his driving plus the car lead to his success. With Sir Lewis Hamilton, the narrative was its the car/Merc advantage. Or was it just the car with him?

All we have is relative performance to the teammate. And we take that into account, Lewis had stronger cars for a much longer period of time than Max did.

2014-2021 The Merc was the car to beat, 14-16 it was undeniably the fastest car that no one had a hope in hell of beating. 17-18 it was the fastest car with Ferrari breathing down it's neck at a decent amount of races. 19/20 the Merc was again head and shoulders above anything else. 21 edge over Red Bull.

There is no dancing around the question. You made an accusation; I drag up an old post that proved just how ****ing wrong you are (as you are whenever you stop wetting your chin for long enough to make a dumb statement) and you ask for the post to be clarified further.

There was no moving the goalpost, you yourself brought Lewis into the conversation.

Marko: Promoting 'battered boxer' Lawson to Red Bull was a mistake

 

I have a feeling they missed the mark with Daniel. Unsuited to the RB but always quick in the Red Bull, he had more chance of success.

 

His test in an actual REDBULL F1 car is why they employed him again, parked him in VCARB hoping he would move forward - Ricci. They are 2 different cars and not all drivers are superbly adaptable but the reports of his test showed him more than competitive with Max in the RedBull. Marko and Horner couldnt make a bar successful in Ibiza in August. Their driver management is a joke and utterly lately lol. Maybe Yuki is a magician in different cars. So far he is about average and has anger issues. He was forced to move to Italy to improve. It was not his idea. Its been how many years now with him on the grid and how many teams want him???

 

Even better is this lol:

"Asked why the Japanese was the right driver now, when they had decided at the end of last season that Lawson was a better bet"

Marko then proceeded to not answer that question at all.

 

For their faults with recent driver management you can't be serious on Marko/Horner unable to run a team successfully.

 

Yuki to Red Bull is somewhat reminiscent of Fisichella to Ferrari, I hope that it has a happier ending.

 

A friend reminded me that perhaps Max had some sway in Red Bull's decision to take Lawson
over Yuki.

Perhaps Max saw Yuki as more of a threat to his place in the team than Lawson.

Inner-team politics, much the same way Irvine kept Tom Kristensen out of Ferrari when
Schumacher broke his leg at Silverstone in 1999.

I wish Yuki full success but just because he has matured and improved a lot this winter does not guarantee he won't throw tantrums when in difficulty.

He is facing a very tall slippery slope.

Tsunoda will finish 2025 F1 season at Red Bull – Marko

 

Three tenths lol. Thats about row 4 potentially in the current team spread in terms of last year this one. 3 tenths doesnt put you on the podium if you lost 3 tenths to the top 3 if you are P4 + weather, problems and the falling apart tires made by Pirelli. Strategy is a generous word for MaxBull/Marko 'driver management'

The decision to swap Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda reflects terribly on Red Bull’s Formula 1 driver decision-making and strategy.

If Tsunoda fails, it’s yet another bad choice that fails to solve a longstanding problem; if he succeeds, it’s a damning indictment of its process given he was passed over a few months ago.

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with Red Bull’s desire to have one top gun and a sidekick. This has worked for many teams in the past, and provided there’s a healthy points contribution from your second driver it can be very effective.

The trouble is, there’s more to being a number two than being slower than the team leader. In the case of Red Bull, to invoke an astronomical metaphor, the Goldilocks zone of around three tenths of a second off in qualifying and stockpiling handy points appears prohibitively narrow.

Regardless of whether or not Tsunoda works out, something must change. Red Bull has the choice either of binning this approach and trying to sign another megastar to put alongside Verstappen, or changing the qualities it seeks in its ‘other’ driver.

Red Bull won’t take the first route. While it appeals, and personally I’d generally favour signing the best two drivers available and taking on the tricky task of managing them, switching to the ‘two aces’ strategy would be too big a stretch for Red Bull.

It can continue on its well-established path of picking a wingman, but this has been done so ineptly for years now both in terms of choosing the right candidate and setting them up to thrive that you’d be forgiven for suspecting its mission is to get the worst out of those drivers. That’s strangely incongruous with the all-round excellence of Red Bull F1 in almost every other area.
