Anyone can help finding racing pics of this car 18825 ? Mostly in Arizona 85 to 89 drivin by Howard Pynn and UK 97...? Thanks
I know this is an old post, but if anyone comes across it and is looking for Stratos wheels, Alfa9 has them in various widths and diameters.
Are you the current owner ? It might be possible to trace the UK owner via local owners club or at least get some photos
I bought this 1977 GTB back in December. It has a 1983 European quattrovalvole engine. It has been extensively modified for racing with a roll cage, stripped interior, fuel injection, fuel cells, larger disc brakes, larger radiatior, plexi windsheild, flared fenders, and roof scoop (I am probably going to delete the roof scoop, but maybe not...). I am planning on getting it back to street-legal status after we get it working again for a brutal street car. I am also six foot nine inches tall and 320 pounds, so I am going to push the pedal box forward maybe 6 inches and put in a custom seat for my rather large frame. Cool....I remember the Kruse Auction listing....no way to un-see that half-a-hot-dog-bun roof scoop! There was so little info in the auction listing, but I'm curious: Is it a glass car? What's the chassis number? Were you able to figure out what kind of ignition and fuel-injection systems it has? Is the engine dry-sumped? What does the half-a-hot-dog-bun actually do; provide a duct to cool something or just redirect cool air towards the intake trumpets? Finally, what the hell do the hoses that run outside of the car through the passenger window do? Inquiring minds want to know.....hahahahahahaha Seriously though, would love to see a separate "revival" thread on your progress. Good luck! - Dave
Cool project. Having spent some quality time in the front area of my '77 today, seems to me it will be a major challenge to move the pedals forward 6". 3" or 4" maybe, but maybe that's enough? The steering rack is just on the other side of of the firewall (fiberglass on mine, so not much of a firewall ) as I'm sure you know, and relocating the rack would not be trivial.
Not real racing but an FCA track day on the fabulous Phillip Island track: Image Unavailable, Please Login
May not be "real racing" but you sir have exactly one more day on the track this year than I do. - Dave
Is it a glass car? No, the car is a little too new to be a Vetroresina model, the fender flares and rear ducktail is glassed in (not to my standards, I will be redoing all the body work at some point in the future) What's the chassis number? It's chassis number 22259, the only thing I have been able to find on its history so far is it was originally a silver-blue car. The underside of the car looks to me like it was in a wreck (metal plates welded in where they are clearly not original and lots of wrinkling on the floor pans) and then it was turned into a racecar pretty early on. All the modifications are from a late 1980's or early 1990's vintage) The engine shows very little wear, I believe it does not have many miles on the motor. Were you able to figure out what kind of ignition and fuel-injection systems it has? The ignition system is a Nutek Firepower distributorless system, the car is now turning over but we are needing to adjust the crankshaft position sensor to get a spark (or so we are thinking). Is the engine dry-sumped? Yes, it is a Moroso dry sump system with a belt-driven aftermarket oil pump, we are still trying to figure out that part of the car. The oil tank is very large. After we drained the old oil we put 8 quarts just in the oil reservoir. Weird thing, when we removed the belt cover some more oil drained out, like another quart, but I can’t see where that oil came from, shouldn’t all oil have been drained after we dropped the oil pan?. When we spin the aftermarket oil pump it makes a gurgling sound, like it’s not grabbing the oil. I am still looking for an answer to this so if anyone can help it would be appreciated. What does the half-a-hot-dog-bun actually do; provide a duct to cool something or just redirect cool air towards the intake trumpets? The roof air scoop has two round holes at the back of it, like maybe the idea was to have air hoses funnel the air to the intake trumpets, but whatever air box they had running to it was not with the car when I purchased it. I plan on deleting the roof scoop and running with foam filter balls over each of the intake trumpets, like I have seen on older Can-Am cars. Finally, what the hell do the hoses that run outside of the car through the passenger window do? Those hoses were just hanging out of the window, perhaps the picture made it look like they were part of the car. The car is very simple with most things not speed related deleted from the car (side windows, interior for the most part, air conditioning, radio, windshield wiper, headlights, etc.) Both doors open up with a cable pull located inside the car. There is no key, just an ignition button, but that’s fine because I plan on taking the steering wheel with me when I leave it on the street.
I am planning on seeing if the pedal box can be pushed up diagonally to avoid the steering rack, I may be able to make this work by going with different pedals, as there are many aftermarket options. One reason this car appealed to me was that it has already been so extensivally modified that I won't be affecting the originality by doing my own thing with the car. I will be posting pictures on this to Fchat when I figure out the best option.
I am preety sure we will have it going preety soon. We are working on the ignition system and we believe the crankshaft position sensor need to be adjusted to pick up the magnetin signal. The car turns over so we are making progress.
Actually it was back in 2017 ... my last big track day...I have tracked my car in every state of Australia except NT and NSW (don't know how I never got around to any of their tracks) and Tasmania - but I did do Targa Tas Tour so plenty of miles on their roads!
@Bigilo - Thanks for responding...didn't mean to go all 40 Questions on you, but there was barely any info available via the auction listing and the car has obviously had some interesting mods done to it. Nice to see you bringing it back to life....and, if you wanted to honor the snorkel intake without triggering thoughts of BBQs and baked goods, this guy looks to have accomplished it much more neatly: - Dave
CurtEgerer posted this image of the Andruet Group 4 308 GTB on the 1981 Tour de France Auto : When I saw it whilst searching for images of Grp 4 308's on the interweb (I didn't find it on here btw) I thought it was such an atmospheric image I felt I had to find the location. After some searching on Google maps I managed to find it. This is the same location (it's where the D244 meets the D261) forty two years later in 2023 : https://maps.app.goo.gl/t7CvGHMmxeRPJa2u8 And a link to a couple of images of the location : https://maps.app.goo.gl/bWQpiW31SSjstRWL9 https://maps.app.goo.gl/nMezBy1r8R8sBTis8 In the dead of night those Group 4 308's, Lancia Stratos and Porsche 911's approaching and departing the hairpin must have sounded incredible !! And on board :
Here is mine, I used to race it in the HSCC 70's roadsports for many years. It is also road legal. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I literally just watched that vid last night. Very cool car, I plan to take mine down a similar - albeit more road-oriented - path. - Dave
