The tariff applies to both new and used cars made abroad. There’s no special exemption currently made for classic cars, which will probably complicate the matter.

If one wants to know my true thoughts on the tariff matter, you’ll need to visit the P&R section where the Tariff Thread has been moved.

No harm… I am patient, LOL. I do not think the car market is strong. Corvettes stacking up on dealerships. People upside down and rapid depreciation on cars sold in the past 4 years. Bottom feeders stealing weak hands in the collector market maybe? People needing cash selling cars at the wrong time, that is what I see. Recession has been here for a while. The pain being reported is amplified to produce doubt and panic in leadership. This was all telegraphed and people like Buffet sitting on a war chest of cash to buy on the cheap. Car market the same. 355’s have stepped up for sure from 2017 or huge from 2010’s, but got flooded with 25 year rule Euro cars in 2024. (That may pause now.) But it caused a change in the market valuation for sure. We will need to mint some new millionaire car guys again and that may take awhile. I hope we do not have 4 dark years financially, but we have seriously pissed off the world. When people scream this loud, you know you are hurting them.

Like Ken said, I need to move deeper thoughts to other threads, but in the 355 world, this will slow. Assets values may definitely come up as inflation rises. I need to market some cars for sale - 355 and others, but holding for boomier times, save for one 355. I feel comfortable keeping two. Loading up with 4 was super aggressive. I just wanted one to drive and one to appreciate :)

In the end, we all love the greatest Ferrari to own, if you cannot afford an F40 or 288…. And even if 355’s are $500k someday, you can still drive it regularly as most cars are fully sorted, seriously reliable, comfortable and produce audible perfection!!

    Cheers!

I've been drooling over this one and wish the timing worked out better on my end. I'd definitely be a bidder. Curious, does 1600veloce charge a % commission or a flat fee to facilitate the auction/sale? Can you share what it is?

“Unfortunately, there’s no similar lobbying organisation in the USA specifically for classic cars but dealers, auction houses and shipping agents are already joining forces. Martin Button, experienced shipping agent and global brand ambassador for CARS, says the hope is that tariffs can be dropped for cars 25 years old or more, which is the ages at which cars not originally manufactured for the American market can be imported.

“We’re hopeful, very hopeful, that they realise that they’ve misunderstood the situation on 25 year-old cars made overseas, and that they’ll rescind it on that,” says Martin. “All of the classics that we bring in attract 2.5% duty, and if it puts it up to 2.5% duty plus a 25% tariff, it’s going to completely kill the market.”

Yes, it will be bittersweet for you. I can easily imagine how you will feel parting with such a fine car. Someone out there will be quite fortunate to win your auction.

Hopefully something is done like that, but I have my doubts. It really would hurt the classic car industry in the US and not protect it...that's for sure.

I haven't followed BaT too much, but it's interesting how your URL is incorrect, but actual ad is correct in the model of the car. For a while I noticed all the 355 cars were being labeled as "F355" in listings and I had to see if it was really a 355F1 or F355. Finally looks like the model is correctly being shown as 355F1. GLWS. $20k hopefully pays off with the final bid rather than the diy major route I've seen many take...

The hourly charge was $300 per hour and there was about 3,000 worth of non major service work done. The major is generally 40 hrs work at whatever the shop charges. Usually less than 300 hr ! GLWS. Love my F1. Such a unique system. I actually prefer it to my CS F1 system.

@Tzippria congrats on the win! Just as a data point, I bought it for $80k from FoW and put another ~$12k into it since then.

You’re getting a ton of value here for the cash. I’ll reach out soon regarding the transaction. Congrats again, she’s a stunner!

If I understand this correctly you bought it for $80k from FoW and put another $27k in it for the recent major of which $19k was labor. Looks like the buyer got a great deal on the car.

The thing holding it back was the mileage. The leaking actuator didn’t help.

That and the fact that it took 42 flashes ( I counted on the cold start video) of the dash light to pressurize the F1 system. Should be between 4 and 6.

...and to be clear, I came close to buying this car two years ago and damn near bought it today. My timing / situation has sucked on both occasions.

@Uberpower seems like a stand-up guy and presented the car honestly.

Congrats to @audi_328 for somehow getting a pretty decent price despite the markets having their worst day since 2020.

Any other day would have brought maybe $10k more, but it was still well sold.
