It is NOT CALLED LORICA. It is Alcantara. Kenneth Michael’s Coachtrim has the original Ferrari Alcantara book with all the original materials for the 550.
Hi, sorry to restart this thread after so long but I’ve been digging around for some info on exactly what the interior fabric is in the 550 Barchetta and where it might be found? I note the Lorica vs Alcantara discussion above - and I have also been told that the same material is also used on the F50? I wondered if anyone here has the definitive word on this? I have a very similar specced much loved (and much driven) Barchetta that I’ve owned since 2006. Living in the UK the climate isnt ideally suited to the car so the interior has taken a real beating over the years and I now need to show it some care and attention. Any help or insights greatly appreciated.
The Barchetta interior material is not Alcantara as commonly thought. Go to Ferrari.com>Past Models>550 Barchetta Pininfarina then scroll through the history page. Ferrari boasts the interior is trimmed with Lorica fabric. It is a miserable material that fades and shreds like a wet paper towel. It appears to be the same material that is used in the F50. I have found no source for this exact material. If anyone has real knowledge of the material, please post it.
After a lot of searching and talking to many "experts", I ended up having the Lorica in my Barchetta replaced with Alcantara. The rest of the interior aged beautifully, but the Lorica started fading after being a few years old and continued to deteriorate over the years. I know the Alcantara is not the original material, but I can say that the interior looks better than ever now, and I have no regrets.
The original material is Blu Scurro Alcantara. It’s an exclusive color Alcantara produced for Ferrari. This is not the same as the F50 cloth, which came in 3 colors, black, charcoal and light grey. None are produced by the company Alcantara.
Also, LORICA is a synthetic leather, not a fabric. You’re probably thinking Dinamica which is a synthetic suede similar to Alcantara, but not as popular, either way, the 550 Barchetta is Blu Scurro Alcantara. Always was, period.
I am not trying to argue with you and am just trying to help other owners who have the same problem. I saw your previous posts and it is obvious that you feel you know what you are talking about, but I was at the Ferrari factory in November 2024 and was told otherwise.
While i worked in my Ex-Barchetta i got three inputs, all said Lorica! Yes, it looks new like Alcantara but with age it is clearly visible not. Dinamica is a newer material, a kind of Alcantara competitor used from factory as example from Mercedes Benz. Also the colour never was blu scurro, it was nero beside of special requests or leather options bei the factory. But today i would go with Alcantra, very durable and looks matching if the car is in like new condition.
