Hi All, As much as I hate calling '80's cars vintage, I realize I'm getting old. My buddy just bought an '84 500SEC. He's not a car guy but wants to be. I told him I would be his Car Consigliere and guide him on the right path. I told him he has to start looking at and participating in "the forums". Can anybody suggest a good forum for the W/C126 era of car? He's not too technical but he wants to understand more about the car and get basic recommendations on maintenance and upgrades. He's not experienced but he is a jeweler by trade, so he understands craftsmanship and process. He seems to be able to take his skillets and apply them to this new hobby. I'd imagine he's going to be really good at polishing the car! He also knows a bit of CAD and 3D printing. I'm car crazy - he isn't. As a part of the 308 crew on here I am used to getting my hands very dirty and deep into the car. I am trying to keep his goals of enjoyment, using the car and road trips with his wife, and not mine of grafting a 5.0 or 6.3 drivetrain and chassis under the body and going full AMG widebody kit. To me, it was the ultimate Miami Vice drug dealer car, along with the Maserati QP3. I think the SEC is one of the prettiest cars of all time! I hope I can live out my dreams of experiencing one through him. Thank you all!
I'd like to find one as well... I haven't found any car forums that I like as much as this one. I'm not so sure using this one isn't the way to go. I have a 280SE 3.5 Coupe, a 300SEL 6.3 now, and possibly a 450SEL 6.9 on the way, if the deal happens. I agree about the SEC. It's the successor to my 3.5 Coupe.
