Hi all I’ve had what I believe to be a belt squeal/chirping for a couple years now. The squeal/chirping is present only after the car is at temperature (say after 20mins of driving), and can be annoyingly heard quite loudly as the car comes to a stop. Sometimes after about 5-10 seconds stationary the squeal stops - Only to start again not long after takeoff (5-10secs) I’ve tried tackling this from a few angles to eliminate possible causes - Timing and services belts, tensioner bearings, water pump but the problem still persists. Anyone had anything similar and if so how did you tackle the problem?
I think a video or sound clip would help Honestly it could be anything ..even a throw out Bearing .. try to record it or use a mechanic stethoscope to isolate it I just threw out the aux belts freq check because one of the people I helped this week had a squeak but only cold and it was the tension of the belt
Possible but unlikely - I would assume if it was headers the squeal/chirping would be consistent at temperature vs coming and going
I had (knock on wood) the same issue. At idle, there would be a random chirping/squeaking with an unknown cause. Never affected performance but embarrassing when pulling up to a crowd, which was when it typically made the noise. After daily driving the car for a few months, it went away. That was 20K miles ago last year.
Yer - sounds the same as what I’m experiencing. I do only take the car out on occasion but may try to a few longer runs and see if that makes any difference.
Ferrari lists the incorrect belt frequency specifications in the regular 360 repair information. The only manual that has the correct specifications is for the 360 Challenge Stradale. There is a possibility that the dealership used the incorrect specification when setting the belt tension.
Good info ..can you elaborate ..which belt ..aux or timing .what is the right freq Would love to know .. Tia
I can’t believe I’m reading this thread. I was about to place my question while I was coming across this thread. I have a 360 F1. It has 42,000 miles and I just did a complete belt service, tensioners, and water pump. the car made squeaky noises consistent with the rotations of the engine, only at very warm temperature. After the work was done, the car ran great for a couple of weeks. But now, especially with warmer temperatures, the noise came back when the engine was up to temperature. Although the noise is not as bad, as before, it’s still there and it’s very annoying after all that money was spent to eliminate it.
Interesting comment - first I’ve heard of this. my understanding was frequency tension meter, aims for a reading between 190 and 220,
Based on the comments from some owners in this feed It’s seems this issue is common and a few of us have been exploring different solutions (Headers, Waterpump, Bearings, Tension frequency etc). If anyone does find a solution that’s worked for them please do share, keen to know what’s worked for others.
I solved this problem by replacing the motor mounts and adjusting the CV heat shields down a bit. The crease of the header shield came into contact with the heat shield and created the chirp sounds. Sort of like nails on a chalkboard in short sound bites. I exhausted every option thinking it was belt related.
