2003 360 I have a Maxiecu and the following are under the brake section NFR - Brake control - Bosch 5.3 DTC Codes No codes ⤬ Refresh Erase Faults Live Parameters ⤬ Wheel sensor LF Km/h Wheel sensor RF Km/h Wheel sensor LR Km/h Wheel sensor RR Km/h Brake pedal status Reads applied/released when pressing brake pedal Pump engine Valve relay, ABS Reads active ??? ECU Information ⤬ Hardware version ISO Code Tests ????? ⤬ Front left load valve Front left drain valve Front right load valve Front right drain valve Left rear load valve Left rear drain valve Right rear load valve Right rear drain valve Pump engine When I try "drain valve" nothing happens and it says test failed. Should I be pressing pedal AND have bleeder open when starting this test? I'm trying to bleed brakes and they wont. Fluid reservoir was full of white crystalized stuff so I imagine it's sticking something in the module. Master bleeds but it's curious. I've put two separate reservoirs on, one for front and one for rear(until I get a new reservoir, can't be cleaned). When I bleed at the master, it bleeds but it will also push fluid into the opposite reservoir. When bleeding at the calipers I'd occasionally get a good bleed but I haven't figured out the pattern. Now I'm getting nothing to the L front. The bleeders aren't plugged.
L front hose was plugged solid. R front hose was restricted. I'll replace all four hoses! Still wondering about the functional test/drain
I don't use electronics to bleed brake. I use a pressure bleeder. The white crystals are an on going issue. Hot water will break up the crystals in the reservoir and it can be cleaned. The rubber hoses will be an issue as well as the lower crossover tube on the caliper. I usually remove the lower crossover tubes and the bleeders and flush the caliper to removed the crystalized fluid.
Good to know on the hot water. What causes the crystals? Must need a different kind of fluid? On crossovers. I was going to have my wife hold the pedal down while I forced fluid from the inner bleeder to outer bleeder. I'll pull one crossover out to see if there's any blockage. Any thoughts on the computer functional tests? Thanks for your input.
You can cycle fluid through the ABS simply by using the ABS. I have a remote road that I use to test and cycle ABS.
The crystals are a result of the original Sell brake fluid combining with moisture. We saw it all the time at the dealer and its the only fluid I have ever seen do it. I would never use the Shell fluid in anything.
Do not attempt to clean the brake reservoir bottle, replace it with the new updated version or the problem will continue in the future. It is very likely that the caliper bridge pipes may be clogged with the white bottle material, and the ABS control unit may have to be back flushed to remove and white plastic parts. Caliper fluid feed hoses may also be a problem, but unlikely, as their internal hose diameter is larger than other restrictions, such as bridge pipes. That's Crazy! I have never seen a fluid do that. Even the cheapest black as coffee dot 3 sitting for decades in a honda civic won't do that.
When the cars were newer, I was swapping brake reservoirs annually. The crystals formed over the year and I believe it was the Shell fluid used by the dealer. I see less and less of the issue as we have moved away from Shell. One car pushed out a long gel like string from the bleed tube I had on the bleed nipple. I had the tube in a flat pan. About an hour later, the gel was fluid again. Craziest thing I had seen. I agree too that the cross over tubes will be blocked. I pull the tubes and bleeders and blow from the bleeder down out of the cross over tube hole and there is always a lot of white chunks.
I replaced the reservoir and all four hoses. One hose was plugged solid, the other three were restricted. The calipers bled great after that
