So I've poster about this car in the various forums. This is the "beater Boxster" that I have been posting about for the last few years. Like many of us here, we get that itch that starts with "hmmm you know a car to work on might be fun!" and in 2023 I bought this one in May from out of Atlanta. To fix up of course. I had a 2002 back in 2007 and it irritated me.. now the same repairs didn't ironically. I bought it in Atlanta and drove it home. What I didn't factor in was the shocks when I bought it were toast. Just an FYI for those reading this looking on Facebook markeplace. You *think* it will ride right.. btu it might not! The ortho surgeon I bought it from knew how to fix joints.. but couldn't fix cars. BTW I'm asking $4500-5000 depending on if I have a shot or tequila in me or not. A shot and it's $4500, not and it's $5k. The hardtop is included.

Things I have done to it in the last 2 years:
    - new shocks all around
    - new rotors and discs
    - new AC compressor
    - new seat covers
    - new door covers - the interior was converted to two tone black and grey
    - new ignition swithc and headlamp switch and drivers doorlock
    - new tires
    - new CV joints
    - new starter
    - new clutch this last Janurary
    - short shifter mod by prior owner (I'm keeping the aluminum shift knob! new owner gets the OEM knob)

    not so good things:
    - convertible top motor doesn't work
    - wireless Doorlocks don't work
    - windshield has a crack in it (drivable and doesn't impair vision
    - pain it getting sketchy on the rear trunk. Im seeing some delamination in spots of the clearcoat
    - It's been in a rear accident and front bumper has also been repainted after PO son bumpedinot basketball hoop)
    - occasional airbag light, I think it's because of the passenger belt buckle

It runs and drives perfect. Fly in and drive it home.

Why am I selling? While it kept the miles off my 991 in the garage, I have to drive that more. Also, the thing under the blue car cover is the ultimate DIY wallet drain. The 79' 928 gifted to me commands all my DIY attention. The boxster simply works and it only has 2 seats. I need a 2+2 with the daughter. Too many cars and while I like it, I don't love it. It might be a nice teen car to teach 3 -pedal driving.

If no interest I'm OK. I'll store it. I don't need help or want help selling it thank you. As-is, where is respectively.

Looks like a lot of fun for 5k - you should consider getting the windshield fixed - covered under comprehensive insurance in SC - no deductible or penalty/hit to your rate..

Make the car $4,750 and you both turn up with a $250 bottle of tequila each.

At some point, you both decide to live in the car together as nomads going on cross-country DIY Porsche repair adventures the likes of which mere mortals cannot fathom. It'll be a marvelous journey between AutoZones and O'Reilly's... doorlocks and roof mechanism fuses... thus kicking off your new streaming show... called... um... AI suggests either "Porsche Trek" or "Two Guys, One Porsche". o_O We're going to have to work on the name.

    All the best,
    Andrew

Oh I forgot.. also replaced front control arms and the engine and transmission mounts.
RMS was done with the clutch as far as I know.
I didn't do the ISM because BeatercarandifitdiesMeh AND it's a early dual row IMS which as I have read has failure rate of the M97 engine of around 1%. They wanted an extra $1600 and I was just like no.

It's funny when I bought it I flew out to Atlanta on a Friday and drove it 5 hours back to the house. Really really fun. The shocks that were 100% shot make the drive interesting.
Now its sorted.. I have no problem saying drive it home.

No but after paying for it in full... I'm going to store it in a warehouse until there is more "clarity" on the tariff situation.

Plus, I'm keeping the hefty deposit.

If I were closer, I would definitely consider this. My son is about a year and a half or so away from his license, so...it would be a fun first car!!

I have already traced a roadtrip route for my son and I if I were to buy it. He turns 16 in May and it would be a great gift for him [The car and road trip]. Thankfully I taught him to drive manual transmission vehicles. His only worry now is the the parts pricing in the future! LoL

Fortunately, Porsche continues to produce parts for every vehicle they've ever made. So he won't ever encounter a situation where the part is unobtainable... even if it does require a little wait while Porsche goes to get the molds out to reproduce a classic part.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I don't think availability is the issue. It's the cost. And god forbid you have to take it to the dealer for any service. A couple minor repairs could easily surpass the asking price on this Boxster. Plenty of resources out there if you want to try to DIY though.

There is a saying that holds true... "there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche"

$5000 Porsches are not for someone who repairs their car at the dealership. :) Thankfully most of the big ticket items above have been done such as the clutch. I suspect I have a buyer...

We actually brought our Macan to the stealership to have the transmission serviced and the thermostat replaced. Our warranty covered the thermostat replacement cost and the extra parts cost was approaching the price of the Boxster. The dealership told us that they're not going to submit warranty paperwork to the external (CarMax) insurance company anymore. They want customers to pay for it then submit to insurance! That'll be a hard NO from me for the other Porsche sin the stable.

I get what you're saying, but I've found that availability and cost are somewhat linked.

My rear differential seized on my "cheap" daily driver Ford Edge's AWD system. The MSRP for that part was $2100 but because Ford wasn't making any more of them my local dealer told me I was out of luck and it was on indefinite backorder. I ended up having to pay over twice the MSRP to get a North Carolina dealer to send me the one they had in stock because they were making a "market rate adjustment" on a part that they knew was in high demand and low availability. And that was just to get my hands on the part, fitting was yet more money.

A Porsche part is expensive, yes. But it's not as expensive as a Ford part when you have to get gouged by an ******* dealer over an out of production part that your car is undrivable without.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Interesting. My first 911 dealership visit was $16k and it was 100% covered by the extended warranty company. They sent an adjuster but the dealership (Porsche Plano, TX) was awesome with him. Sounds like you need a new dealership!
