The factory steel lid doesn't fit well on my QV. No idea if its the car or the lid of a bit of both. Also don't know how common poor fitting panels are but I did read a couple places painting a 308 is about triple the time of a 911 due mostly to extra prep time needed.

I'm 6'4" wingspan to match & twice your weight and while I have done it a few times myself I Really prefer to have a helping hand. It's just an awkward thing to move from the rear of the vehicle. No reason to risk bodywork.

I've adjusted the decklids on every variant of the 3x8. Not a single one has what wild be considered a good fit. There's always funky panel gaps and a compromise to be had. My goal was to insure the rear sat flush and the gap was even at the back, the rest was whatever it ended up. The latching took precedence.

Proper sized gauge pins really helped though. They got you 95% of the way there. And for the 328's almost spot on, if nobody has messed with the factory setup.

Also, when reinstalling the deck lid. Before you tighten the blots, align these holes and place a pop rivet or small screw driver in these holes. Then tighten the bolts. The body gap should be good if not close.

I have a set of six cut down nails (about 1" long) that live in my tool box for exactly this. I think they started out life as 3" nails.

They need to be a good snug fit.
