You are crazy! After the service, I would 1 million percent drive it home! My first Ferrari I ever bought was a 550 and I picked it up in a different country and drove 5,000 KMs in 21 days. Tomorrow, I am picking up a CLK63 Black Series Near Reno Nevada and I am driving 520 Miles through Yosemite with my wife, staying the night and then driving through to LA. Life is made up of memories and putting a car on a truck isn't very memorable..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Quick intro - long-term lurker here and have owned a special BMW 8-series for the last 20 years - I'm not getting any younger though and psyching myself up to jump back into the irrational glories of Italian car ownership. Just started my search, although have been following sales/auctions closely for the past couple of years when I came across a non-running 575 very close to me - 34144 - which was owned by a forum member here a few years back. Fairly typical life until about 5 years ago when mileage increased to 10k/yr. Was running and driving in Atlanta up until last August and now it's sitting at a local(ish) dealer (nearly 76k miles) needing some intense mechanical love. I viewed the car in person and she's beautiful, tool kit and stack of receipts, however "plugs are removed and a few engine parts are missing" - which is all they could tell me. Before I drag my mechanic out there to do a proper inspection and give me a list of what would be needed to bring her back to life - wondering if anyone knows this car and what happened near the end of the year to go from daily driver to auction car. I certainly understand that it will take a few suitcases of $$ - but hoping I can discover the "story" and see if it makes sense at all. I realize with this car, even a replacement engine might not be enough - although I remain irrationally optimistic I could escape with less than $50k in repairs... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to guess that it's not - this one is in SoCal with a blown motor - got a little more info that there was cam belt failure and the owner decided not to follow through with the repairs.
I believe that is Clyde's car. The car's mechanical journey is well documented on the forum....search around.

May have spoken too soon (apologies Ferrari55whoa) - I started at the back of the thread and saw work being done on a 575 - which is not the car I'm looking at now. Guess he's working on a different 575 now...
I’m not sure I understand your last post. Just trying to be helpful on my end. The photo in your post was Clyde’s 2003 black on black 575. Clyde sold it and moved on to another 575 which he is doing dash work, a major belt service and perhaps other “while you are in there’s”. Clyde is one of the more prolific drivers of all of us on here.
Just a humble apology for saying it couldn't be Clyde's car - when it obviously is - I started reading his thread from the back instead of the front and saw a clutch replacement being done last month - obvious (now) that it was his 2004, not his 2003 which I saw last week needing a tremendous amount of love to get back on the road...
Image Unavailable, Please Login this is my old 575 it has 77k on it it was a 2003 the attached picture will show you what happened the drive bearing for the drivers side died and caused the belt to slip it totally destroyed the drivers side head other than that it was a great car I sold it as is
Thank you for the detailed insight, Clyde - very obvious from the time I spent with it last week that it was very well taken care of - Sucks that the failure of such a small part did so much damage. I wish I had the right garage (and time) to give her what she needs to bring her back. Love the spec and the light mods you did while she was in your care - and the fact you drove the wheels off her. Hope to be able to do the same with my (future) 575
