Thx. I will try both of your suggestions. Looks like nothing but Chinese unbranded compressors are being sold.

For what its worth I bought a rebuilt off Ebay and (knock on wood) a couple hundred miles in, its working fine. They offered a core exchange, but I opted to keep mine for now. I may send it to them to rebuild it for me (on the agreement I get the same one back) if this one I got from them survives the entire Texas summer with no issues.

Unfortunately, my core was not rebuildable. The expansion was totally clogged and apparently starved the compressor of oil and ruined it. Not having a rebuildable core is causing a problem for me. I called Compressor International and they are looking for a core. Same with ColdworksAC.

Ok, well when I bought mine in February they didn’t require a core. In fact the core credit was kind of laughable I think less than $50.

ColdworksAC had two remans in stock with no core required so I have a compressor on the way. Fingers crossed!

Post results when installed. I would recommend replacing the drier and adding proper oil amount at the same time.

I always like to know where my labels are printed. Don't want any of those cheap Chinese labels on my reman parts :D

Remove these 4 items and it comes right out!

I dint realize the fittings on the dryer rotate and pulled the high pressure line out. You probably don't nee to! 17mm and 19mm wrench will do it and they are not that tight.

Getting the compressor out is proving to be a little more work.

The expansion valve is buried, I am going to try flushing the evaporator before attempting to remove the EV!

I haven't see any particles in the oil so far. Makes me wonder if the compressor was really bad?

    67Bmer,

Would you mind taking pictures of your compressor from all angles to see if there are markings to identify it as Delphi? My ColdACworks came in with no label and nothing to identify it brand wise.

The expansion valve was extremely difficult for me to get out. It is behind a plastic cover with two retaining screws but someone epoxied the cover on(A/C was probably serviced by previous owner) so I had to fish out the valve from the top using a mirror and working blind all scrunched up in the pass foot well. My valve was totally clogged up and my guess is that the comp was not getting oil. I only found one ~3mm flat alum shard in the exhaust port of my compressor and nothing in any of the lines or evaporator when flushed.

Back to the first question. Does anyone know how to identify an OEM compressor?

Daniel at Ricambi told me he no longer stocks compressors and that "new" OEM compressors are 5K! Prices are all over the map on 360 and Masarate compressors so it looks like all of the compressors out there are after market. I contacted Compressor International and was told that their rebuilt 360 comps are after market.

hopefully this is the correct 1st photo

Getting the compressor out is quite the challenge! Although I suspect perhaps less than the EV!.I haven't found anything wrong yet! No metal in the lines, oil, etc. The new compressor requires a lot of torque to turn and the old compressor has almost no running torque. Only slightly more than the clutch. I will post more soon. I am going to flush the system today, and possibly wait until next weekend to reassemble. I saw one video where they speculated compressor failure was the result of residual flush.

The cast steel bracket can come out, but not attached to the compressor. There is not enough clearance between the chassis and the stud.

I had to remove the wire clamp to get enough room to break loose the upper bolt with the 6-point. This was the only really tight screw.

Then the compressor can come out. The screw holding the manifold was tight and appears to have had thread lock applied. A little impact wrench and it comes right out.

Just some info: I removed my AC compressor a few days ago and it is at my local AC shop here in San Diego. They sent it to a rebuilder in Reno NV and it's
    getting rebuilt for $450.

It still worked, I just wanted to rebuild it while it was out of the car. The orings were leaking I think. (And possibly the compressor body)

    The car is a 99 F1 Modena.

Looks like yours came out with the bracket. Is your stud shorter?

Thanks for all the detailed photos. Different last few numbers and no Delphi sticker but my rebuilt comp looks very much like yours.

    Did you take any pictures?
That looked so daunting that I have not tried yet after removing the glovebox! I haven't found any metal flakes, grime, grit, etc. I am thinking about skipping it. I have flushed both ways and nothing came out.

Just a word from my alternator/ac rebuilder who warned me before getting a rebuilt alternator:

He said Delphi no longer sells spare parts for alternators, so the rebuilders can only install aftermarket parts, which typically don't share the quality standard of OEM. Sure enough the rebuild shortly failed. After going through two rebuilds (my car is a daily driver), I purchased new at the dealer. Then 60K+/- miles with no issues.

Not sure if the same is the case for compressors, but I'd imagine it is. Whenever possible, get new. That way there will be no issues.

I was told by Daniel(Recambi) that a "new" one was ~5k. some of the other vendors are ofering them for ~4K. Looks like there are no "new" ones being built. All Chinese junk it seems.
