Just came across this PF Coup restoration video. Shop appears to be in Chengdu, China. Anyone know the chassis number?

Surprised to see this car in China. Didn't realize there was a market there for vintage Ferraris

    Holy crap, Batman !

I tried to watch this, even in small servings, but due to growing feeling of nausea and need to throw up, just couldn't finish it.

Images/videos like this also remind me of how many similar quality(?) "restorations" are performed daily in backyards, driveways, garages, sheds and even in many so-called "professional" restoration shops around the world, including here, Europe, UK, etc and eventually sold, perhaps through 2nd tier auctions, etc to unsuspecting "victims" as "fully/completely restored to concours/show quality" examples.

OTOH, these hack jobs will hopefully(?) provide temporary respite for subjects like this becoming chassis number donors for fakey-do conversions and with any luck, someday may even end up receiving a proper restorations, which anything like this will still be in the need of, although to accomplish one after so many original details & features have been destoyed/erased by this utter hackmanship, will make it so much more difficult & expensive.

P.S. I somehow doubt this car or others in the video background are destined to Chinese "market", but rather just brought there to receive inexpensive(?) "restorations".

Kudos on taking on the car. Also, interesting that it was done in mainland China and that they genuinely took pride in their work. Although it's an 'amateur' restoration by most of our standards (I winced and cringed a few times), I respect that they took it on. I suspect if someone knowledgeable was there to guide them it would have turned out a bit closer (and they may have retained more original material). I'm curious what they learned and what they will do better with next time.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Maybe this "shop" is just another Classiche subcontractor, providing factory certified restorations to budget minded collectors/owners willing to settle for a Pink or Reddish Book ?
Perhaps even located near or next to some "close-enough" replacement parts manufacturing facility in Rosso Cina Est ?

I wanted to ask why would they not try and hunt down used or NOS items, but was being polite.

I wonder what the owners fortune cookie said before he took his car there?

Well, go ahead and ask them, but I suspect if/when someone is hurrying to accomplish a "cost conscious" job like this, they may not want to waste time or money on "hunting", let alone acquiring new or used replacement parts for the ones they already have.
Besides, replacing any with NOS items on a job of this magnitude could be viewed as waste also.
OTOH, we have to remember, someday, somewhere, someone will love and be proud of this car.
