    WHAT RULES? There has never been an ADR advocating 'rubber band' tyres, shields on road cars, bulges in place of curves...
    Look at those 2 cars - one is a pure original piece of design, the other is a mish-mash of everything that was trendy at the time and derivative of the previous, and competitors, models.
    Design these days is driven by the money people who just want whatever sold last year...
