    That isn't inside info.

You insinuated that you and furoni have some secret info on the "truth"of Alonso.

This discussion should not be on "which driver is here to blame?", it should be on the (in)consistencies of FIA rules.

The situation: driver A has the inside corner, driver B the outside line. Driver B leaves the track and rejoins in front of driver A.

Of course there are complications (which car was in front, was there enough space between the cars for both A and B to make the corner, was B pushed off or did he choose to leave the track, did all this happen in the first lap chaos or not, etc).

But the basic rule should be clear: exact the same rulings from the past should be applied now, regardless of the identities of drivers A and B.

Detailed thread with telemetry below for those interested.

It all boils down to what you/Alonso have said. If the FIA changes rules to that again we immediately get rid of this completely idiotic ''I was first at the apex so I can do what I want" rule.

I'll reiterate, I don't blame either Max or Piastri. This is FRACTIONAL car placement, at speed, in real time. To judge with 100% accuracy in real time who was truly ahead, whilst fighting for the race lead/title, finding the exact apex and just who was ahead or behind by an inch at most, and both of them by default being biased in their own favour, is erm, not very easy. Lets not forget both their teams would be yapping in their ears afterwards giving their driver whatever they want to hear so as to not **** with their mindset to much (and the same goes for fans or people that dislike whichever driver)

It's the rules that are dogshit. It doesn't make for good racing. Myself and others said that the moment those revised rules came out, I said it when Max was doing it, and I'm still saying it now. I don't blame drivers making use of the rule, because if they don't use it, it'll be used against them.

But what I do ask for is the idiots that have to apply the rules, use ALL their tools available to make the correct decision.

We've seen Max in Piastri's position and get penalized for doing exactly that.
We've seen Hamilton in Max's position and completely get away with it.

The rules are dogshit and the idiots applying the rules don't always know what they're doing.

Change the rules to ''always leave the space'' and we get wonderful racing back AND no more dumb penalties from dummies.

Telemetry We do have available telemetry of Lap 1 and I zoomed in at T1-2 chicane via @f1insightshub We can see clearly: - Piastri has better initial acceleration, validating telemetry accuracy ✅ - Verstappen was much earlier on brakes, ie Piastri was much later on brakes https://t.co/vx2zEDjjNr" / X

I agree with you, but if it's after turn in the leading driver has already committed to his line.

That guy needs to verify the definition of "ahead".

The "parallel lines" are a gem.

    As Per F1 guidelines 2025:

In order to be entitled to room from the defending car, the attacker on the inside of a corner is expected to have its front axle at least alongside the mirror of the defender by the apex of the corner. It must be driven safely through the entry, apex, and exit without forcing the defending car off the track at the exit. The attacker is expected to make the corner within track limits and must leave width for the defender all the way through the exit of the corner.

In order for the attacking driver to be entitled to space through the corner, including the exit, while attempting to pass around the outside, the attacker must have their front axle at least alongside the front axle of the defending car at the apex of the corner.

I agree with you, parallel lines with the slightest of edges given to Max, but according to the F1 rules, Max by definition is ahead there

I go back to the point I made a few days ago, last year, and since they introduced this dumb ass rule a few years back: Allow for a cars width at any time. That's all there is to it.

It's in the dang rule book and despite video evidence showing Max and Oscar could have touched front wheels for 250 meters leading to the apex, people will still somehow think Oscar had the right to the corner.

"Committed to your line" is a bit of a misnomer. From turn-in to apex, it's true that it's not possible to reduce the radius of your line. But there's no need to. If you're on the inside, you can take your apex. If you're on the outside, you need to increase the radius of your line to leave room for the driver on the inside. This means a slower exit because you have to be a car width wide at the apex, but you can negotiate the corner.* And that's kind of the point - by letting the other guy alongside, your line is compromised. That's racing.

From the apex to the exit, it's absolutely possible to leave each other room. It will limit your ability to accelerate. But again, that's part of racing.

    ____
    * I suppose there will be scenarios where the track is too slick off line where this isn't true.

Right, and I'm saying if not alongside (meaning, some overlap, not completely) at turn-in, you don't have any right to the turn, because that's when the leading driver needs to commit to their line. So dive bombing after turn-in is not acceptable.

If you look at Leclerc behind, he forced Russel wide as well, the corner is way to tight for 5m long cars. Stupid track design.

For me its racing but MV should not have left the door open to OP.

Given the money and ability in Saudi they could re-profile that turn in 2 weeks or less. They could also put speed bumps in that run off, easily removable for MotoGP etc. Given the SUV size F1 cars the FIA should minimize that type of turn when its possible. 1 turn is all that need be fixed not rocket science at all for that circuit.

He had no choice, OP got a better launch so he couldn't shut the door. Then he got a dose of his own medicine. If he had attempted to keep a wheel on track (like Lando did in Mexico last year), then he'd have an argument. If it were anyone else, they'd also have an argument, but Max has abused the ahead at apex and push the guy off rule himself so many times that for him to complain is laughable. He got penalized in Mexico because Lando tried to stay on track and Max hit him off. In this case, he didn't try to stay on track and didn't get hit. Oscar can easily say that he saw Max leave the track so there was no need to leave room, and he's correct (imo).

Totally agree, he [MV] screwed up. MV took the longest route around a LH bend, he knew full well the end result before he got to the corner.!
