It’s part of air cooling breaks.

I never doubted the function, who would? I'm sure there isn't only one way to solve a problem either. It's not like Ferrari hasn't found a different and more aesthetically pleasing solution to cooling brakes in the past.

Let's not homer for Ferrari. It's bad design in my opinion aethestically. Others will have their opinion on this design, equally legitimate as mine. Unfortunately, I can't unsee this grotesque choice.

I understand, it’s a new stylistic language and it’ll take time to get used to. Same discussion when the LaFerrari came out — we all know what we think of it today. But in any case, let’s acknowledge the technological achievement for such a small manufacturer that builds everything in-house. Just for that owners spend 4M dollars.

I actually like the car, but not that design choice which I think was a bit of an afterthought. I'd also like to see more aggressive headlights and think the choice they made is a bit too trendy. Personally, I think headlight design is way undervalued in today's designs. Headlights are afterall, the "eyeballs" of the car and need to compliment the monster under the rear bonnet.

Again in photos the intakes are really prevalent. In realty when seeing the car in person they are not, remember they are abou9" off of the ground and inset.

I agree, the head lights have always been the “eyeballs” on previous Ferrari designs except, perhaps, the early Daytona’s which had covered headlights which were later replaced by the much nicer pop-up headlights on models from 71 onwards.
In search for a more futuristic design and originality, Flavio Manzoni created the black visor covering the headlights of the F80. This visor was intentionally designed to avoid what he referred to as the “anthropomorphic effect” of making the car’s front look like a face with “two eyes and a mouth”.
Manzoni's originality obsession to avoid an anthropomorphic effect resulted in a final design of the front and headlights of the F80 which IMO is a complete failure.

Those brake cooling ducts were taken straight from the 499p race car which inspired the concept for the F80.
I’ve never seen this solution for cooling done through the structure of a car like this. It’s brilliant fusion of design and an engineering solution. Also underscores a core value of Ferrari which is bringing racing technology to the road.

It's a shame the front end doesn't look like the 499p.

Now the deposit is getting shaped. The process has begun. Maybe no Aperta. Who knows…

You two are playing opposite parts but both too subjective. It's just some cooling intakes, no need to fuss about, they're not 'grotesque' nor 'brilliant fusion of design and engineering'.

It’s a forum, of course we are being subjective and giving opinions. I don’t see the issue.

They could have done it if they had moved the front radiators to the sides. Although that probably would mean a narrower cockpit and ending with something more radical like a Valkyrie.

The nostrils are certainly not afterthought. They are pretty much mandatory in F80. Due to very tight packaging in the nose, Ferrari had to design brake cooling to run inside the crash structure from the outset.

Nostrils are also traditional elements in Ferrari's sport prototypes.

    Few similar examples:
    330 P3 & P4
    412 P
    499P
    P4/5 (Pininfarina)

That's true nostrils are traditional elements in Ferrari's sport prototypes. However, despite the nostrils of the 412 P and the 330 P4 being quite similar they are completely different from those of the F80. The nostrils of the P4/5 also have nothing in common with those of the F80. One would expect that in the case of the 499P, which served as inspiration for the F80, there would be some kind of similarities in the nostrils but, there aren't any.
These pictures also allow us to see better how the black visor covering the headlights of the F80 completely changes the aesthetic of the front of the car in relation to the other models in which the anthropomorphic effect wasn't purposely avoided.

For not trying to be anthropomorphic with the F80 front end esthetic, I still find the F80 has a face, and a strong one at that. I see two eyes, two nostrils and a mouth, with lips. Yes different than Ferrari's of the past, but still strangely a bit friendly, in a typical Ferrari way.

The Nero F80 pictured below is one of the prototypes that was photographed in Maranello. When compared from a similar angle with the Rosso F80, it almost looks like they are two different cars.
Although Manzoni ruined the front of this Rosso F80 with his anti anthropomorphic obsession that made him introduce the black visor, it is perfectly possible to mend the F80 front by opting for the Nero colors.

I agree that they look totally different.

But I think the word "ruined" is not quite right here if you consider all the reasons why the visor is there.

I certainly prefer the red car over the black one. It looks more modern and is visually more impressive with dual tone. The red part also forms a nice half-triangle like shape when viewing from the front.
