    Howdy,

New to Ferrari although I've been a lifelong fan. Currently looking at a 2015 California T and working through the negotiations. For those that have had a California, would you buy a car with these issues and are these issues possibly indicative of a greater problem?

Also, why do so many of the California's I see listed have 6+ previous owners?

    Cheers and thanks!!

Brake switch failure is a common problem with California and 458/488 models, it's like a $60 part but causes scary warnings. I actually need to fix this on mine right now. Oil change is common maintenance, you should plan on that at least once a year. Parking sensors do fail, if the rear ones fail then the top won't go down. It's hard to gleam much from this report but it looks like a machine that hasn't been highly maintained but might just not be driven often. You might want to plan on a replacement battery if it hasn't been replaced in the past 3 years.

The Cali T is a great machine. A word of caution, I don't know your exotic car history but insurance might be tough to get. Make sure you're talking to your agent and collector car companies to get that sorted.

Thanks GrigioGuy! That assuages some of my concern. I've got insurance sorted already. Thanks for the advice on that! Not the biggest fan of the option presented though - can't drive more than 2000 miles/year but it's only $1600 so not that bad. May look around at other options if I'll be driving it more but frankly, I don't know how much I'll be driving it.

If I read that correctly, someone is getting ripped off with that place.

LH side mirror does not auto-retract, they recommend diagnostics. They charged $150 for that piece of information?

The window switch will cost you closer to $1k btw, not $194. The old style switches are unobtainium so you'll need the whole switch assembly with wiring harness.

Insurance, Geico was $1200 with no mileage limits for my Cali T. My Cali is $1010/yr, no mileage or other limits.

When wishing to buy an 11 year-old vehicle, I proceed with optimistic caution. Service records over the full history, or good set of partial history, along with assessment of current condition by my self and discussing with local dealer service or high quality independent. Perfect knowledge is unlikely to be found, so question is if enough information is gathered for comfortable transaction.

The listing above as shared is much to incomplete for my comfort on service records overall to inform a purchase or current condition.

For the listing above, there are some concerns. They include:
1.) Oil is dirty line. That suggests the service shop is not an authorized dealer. What does oil is dirty mean? I imagine a car getting annual dealer service would not get an oil is dirty comment, my dealer either changes the oil or not and have never commented on oil being dirty on my 2016.
2.) Parking sensor fault can occur. People wreck them, maybe there are other failure modes. Mine have worked fine continuously.
3.) Drive mode switch fault. That one is new to me. Don't know what it means or how the fault is presented.
4.) Brake switch. I have heard of a couple of those going bad over the course of a decade.
5.) LH mirror does not auto fold. Surely it does not, I am unaware of any autofold on the side mirrors and would be pleased to learn about it if I am missing some information in my experience.
6.) Window switch broken. If you can find a correct window switch for $44, please let me know where to buy one. Yes, the two window switches on the center console can break if not very delicately operated. Last time I asked the dealer, the replacement loom was around $2,500 (I don't recall if labor was included in that price).
7.) Belt replace. I've not heard of that issue as concerning or expensive since the engine does not have a cam belt. Maybe that is the external water pump belt, maybe it would be due for a replacement.

A common problem encountered by a new owner is the battery needs replacing and the owner needs to learn to use the battery tender as directed.

Personally, I would want to know a lot more about the car than the listing above to make a purchase decision. A good Cali T is a joy to own. A lot of them are pretty good because they are a pretty reliable car overall.

My insurance in SoCal is about $1,900 per year with no mileage restrictions. USAA do ask me for annual mileage estimates on all my cars once in a while.

And, yes, lots of Ferrari cars have owners for a year or two and then moved on.

    thanks dera!

This was from the inspection and repairs done by the repair shop of the place I “was” looking at buying the car from. So nothing I’d have to pay. But I’ve decided to move on from this one after reading these reviews on the place and instead going to get a dealer certified car. And thanks for the info on insurance. I’ll look into those as I’d want to drive more than 2000 miles/year

Thanks mcw! Very thorough remarks. The issues did raise a concern hence wanting feedback! And after reading reviews from the particular dealer, I am going to pass on this particular car.

Yes pay a little more get a Ferrari dealer approved 2 year power warranty for peace of mind but if you did have any faults within a short time they should sort it all out for you there’s low owner ones out there , I don’t think I’d go near a 5plus owner car 3 would be my max
Which is would you should get , happy hunting

Number of owners is irrelevant if they are solid owners. Worst owner is one that just lets the car rot away without driving it.
I bet im not the only one who keeps these cars for 9-12 months. I usually also spend 3-5k to sort all the small things out.
Also, Carfax number of owners is ridiculously inaccurate. Dont just look at the number, look at the history.
