Where I live, all my Ferrari mates got calls with the opportunity to buy one within the last 2 months, irrespective of if they bought 1 or 10 cars previously. I'd say sit tight and wait for some near new ones at a 30% discount
Charging the battery between shifts is pretty clever. They must be using the rotor inertia as the gas motor changes RPM and reversing current flow back to the battery. Obviously you never want to be charging then the car is accelerating or getting power from the engine to the wheels or its a drag. Decelerating its an advantage. So this "gap" is neither accelerating or braking between shifts Seems to me they are going back to the ordering method of the Scuderia, where its really just an option choice rather than a select number made. They will build them as the market demands rather than restrict them. I think it lost its visual relationship to the 250 LM though.
This all lines up. Mugello will compete with the STO / GT2 RS and be released at Le Mans. AF Pack, Speciale / VS and next a hardcore Piloti / Mugello variant. I wonder if the Mugello drops the Hybrid system....
It's nice. My initial reaction is "like" but not "love". Need to sit with it a few days and see if I love it. Had a hardtop offer but not a spider (which I would have taken), and dont regret not taking it at this point. I think the car always needed something aggressive to enhance the front (S-duct etc), but the tail was such a beautiful sculpural form and my initial reaction is it has just become busy. They could have leaned into something more interesting around the tail lights and cam tail.
Initial thoughts. I love it, on par with the expectation of aggressiveness and new styling that imo I expected. Overall it is more aggressive and impressive than the standard GTB, love the new rear and how they incorporated the wings. Shaved decent weight and a lot more downforce. Engine is stronger and lighter. The new shifts. The ABS system sounds impressive. As for the name, I remember seeing a long time ago that it could be named 296 Speciale. A little surprised they recycled the name but I still like it. Messing around on the configurator, looking forward to seeing everyone's specs.
I've been a critic of the new design. i think they've done a great job with the VS. Any update on the engine RPM?
Of all the series TG talks about, my favorite is still the 458 Speciale as a visual difference between the base car and the modded one. Its more functional but I think even a bit better looking. A pretty good balance.
Both from a mechanical and performance standpoint, I’m sure it’s a step up from the base 296, but I’m left a bit flat on the looks - while beautiful, it’s lacking the drama that I would expect from a Special Series. Also left a bit flat on the recycling of the Speciale name.
So there is another version of the 296 coming? In a recent post day355 mentioned that there was going to be non-hybrid version but they did not move forward as it would hurt the 296. perhaps a special limited edition version of the 296 without hybrid? that would be amazing, but then would they do that and reduce power?
Wild conjectures. There won't be a different "Mugello" model. The Piloti version of the Speciale will just have different livery options.
I think the Speciale name is to benefit from some positive association with the beloved 458 Speciale.
top gear reporting that it's not a limited run car and the only requirement is you have to have bought a Ferrari within the last 5 years to qualify, nothing more safe to assume there will be a lot of these cars
I like it, and I favor the open version. As someone else mentioned, I think the side skirts do look very nice. My favorite feature is actually the three slots cut over each fender. Why? I had hoped the 296 was going to be a 21st century Dino. It's not, but aspects of its look do favor the 246. The three slots aren't in the exact same place as the 246, but they're close, and they immediately make me think of the Dino. For me, that's a nice nod to the past, and I greatly appreciate it.
Clever technology, I must say. And I like this compact track focused format. Lookswise, I does nothing for me personally. Could be a tuning kit from Novitec. But then again, I don't know how Ferrari could have done it better with Manzoni still being the ruler of their design studio. EU-regulations doesn't really help either. I still stand on my belief that the 296 Speciale will sell for a heavy discount on the secondary market in a few years time. Would I buy one? No. But if I had to, I would get the Aperta for nice summer days Overall a cool car, but lacks the same luster as its heritage models.
I really like this car. The 296 is the perfect size and is such a wonderfully styled car that I like that this isn’t drastically different. The aesthetic changes as needed for aero and not much more.
Car not limited. If you want one, eventually you can spec one. Or buy used at probably a discount in a couple years. But seriously, this thing is bad ass. Weirdly, engine listed at 700 CV, electric motor 154 VC. Combined 880 CV. Can someone explain how that works?
This Speciale is better looking than the standard 296, expecially for the GTB. In my opinion present 296 lacks aggressivity: this Speciale has much more Ciao
car not limited, but costs not that much more than a 296 with AF. that is a significant aeropack (downforce) vs standard car. the power and track tech updates to it including 1- suspension, 2- in-shift-boost, 3- the new steering wheel are significant for what you pay for. from a real buyers point of view (the dude that is going to buy one and drive and track it and put miles on it) it makes sense. looks miles better than pista- when you see them parked side to side the pista will disappear faster than the pista on a track. for the first year salesmen will take out their schlongs and lay them on the table, but when these start coming in and people are backing out the salesmen will bend over the table to sell them at sticker. this will happen. stop the myth about some other version. this is it. maybe they'll offer a "weissach pack" with a big rear wing or something, but its going to be the same car. this car is as fast or faster then an SF90 at fiorano. 2 sec less than std car on such a short track--- relates to predicted a ring time of 7:40 on the ring. that is f ing fast. this car eats the GT3 RS for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. we'll see what the GT2 RS can do. have a great day!
