If you are down in the area and have some time the USAF Armament Museum at Eglin is worth checking out also.

Saw it driving by, wish I'd had time to stop! Looked like an SR-71 outside. Now I am sitting at VPS (adjacent to Eglin) waiting for a flight, only had 3 hrs to spare so I had to make a choice, and chose Naval Aviation Museum. Naval Museum did not disappoint! Pics to come.

Next time you're in that part of the country, also check out the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, near Dothan, AL. Lots of helicopters, of course, but a fair number of fixed wing aircraft, and all nicely presented.

And adjacent to the battleship USS Alabama in Mobile Bay is a small air museum that does include an SR-71.

The Naval Aviation Museum is the best choice by far, it's definitely in the top ten in the country in my opinion. The museum at Eglin is neat but not really a "must see" the way the Naval museum is. It is worth noting though that the SR-71 there is the one of a kind "long tail" variant.

I grew up right across the water from Pensacola Navy Base and spent many summers running around out on that base with military friends. I guess you already visited but if you happen to go again check out the old forts they have. The museum gets better every time and they also have the Imax theater which shows several different shows. I've been there probably fifty times but it never gets old.

A design that was ahead of it's time. The engines were awful.

They have a pretty cool Tomcat simulator in the museum not to mention a wide array of aircraft on display. Look forward to the pictures!
