You are correct on both counts, the gasket goes on either way (I smear just a dash of non-hardening sealing compound instead of the usual oil) and the camshaft gasket is weeping oil. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be too bad at present. Depending on the model, replacing it can require quite a bit of work. If you can leave it for the next belt change and valve clearance check, that would be great.

So the o-ring on the camshaft needs to be replaced as well?

Also the new part I got (the metal on the left ) seems to be completely different from the seal I just removed.

Wrong part or is it the right part, just updated?

Put in a new seal and gasket. Clean it all up and run it with the distributor cap off and that coil primary wire disconnected. In a minute or two you will see if it is leaking past the cam extension. Those O rings need replacing from time to time.

Thanks man will do. I can't find a part number for the O ring for my car. It's an 82, there is a part number for the QV but not sure if it's the same or not.

The QV is 109478 can't find anything for a 2v.

Also can someone verify that the metal version of this seal is ok to use, or do I need to order the rubber?

If anyone is wondering, the metal seal fit and appears to be leak free so maybe the seal I pulled out wasn't OEM?
