JB weld isn't gonna do it in this one, it's pretty well destroyed, but good news is I was able to limit damage to the pump housing so that's usable.

    Good day,

Please forgive my out-in-left-field comment, but why not 3D scan the housing and then touch up the resulting cad/scan and then 3D print in metal, etc? There are several shops that offer metal 3D printing and pricing has come down a long ways... and could be significantly less than new and perhaps even less expensive than a good used one? Member Bfunc did this for a number of his Boxer throttle body conversion parts and the results have been excellent. In fact he even 3D metal printed portions of his exhaust in stainless steel with impressive results.

    Cheers,

    Sam

That's definitely an option as I have a friend with a CNC Mill and he offered to do so. However, if I can find a used one I'll likely go that route and then scan it for the future, all of that effort and time has value as well as it'll likely take 20-30 hours of effort to recreate it, especially without a good scan candidate.

Have you tried Ferrari for the pump cover? I needed one for one of my cars previously and was on a waiting list with Ferrari for about 18 months for them to remake them but I did get a new one eventually. This was about 10 years ago but hopefully they made a decent amount of them at the time. From memory it wasn't too badly priced either.
    Cheers Al.

    Good day Pete,

Understood. That said the time to scan or even create a suitable 3D model is very dependent on a person's CAD tools and skills On my side, I routinely create all sorts of 3D models with most taking a few hours from scratch. Once complete, I 3D print in-house to check the design and measurements, then upload the design to one of the various commercial 3D print shops... or bug my machinist buddy and have him use their high end CNC's... or both (3D print then clean up with CNC). The process works well, but if you had to outsource it all... then it could be timely and costly. Thankfully I am "cheap" :) ... and so I tend to be resourceful.

    Cheers,

    Sam

The usual (uk) suspects can provide a new p/n 104328 for GBP550 (ouch!).

Welding the part could make it do (?)

I shot them an inquiry and no response (yet). If you look, it says on request, not in stock, so they may have to make a new one, not sure.

    You'd better call them.

CoppolaOldTimer (based in Milano) is more oldschool (no fancy website), but he can get you all sorts of parts at a reasonable price, and has good welders in his network.

I kept the old one, but looking at how much they have gone up I will hang on to it. I purchased the new one in Nov 2016 and it was only $218 Aussie dollars :)

My old one was worn down by an impeller that didn't have a nut on it so has too much clearance but could probably be built up again.

    Cheers,
    Al

Yep,I shot him a message and he didn't have the cover. I might get that whole assembly as well.

Some updates - nobody has a pump cover in stock that I can find, so I've proceeded with creating a new one. The 3d model prototype is almost complete, so I will have one machined out of aluminum. I'm going to add a divorced water neck as they're cheap and easy to find and would be the hardest part to recreate as part of a single unit. It'll also make it much easier to remove in the future if it ever needs to come off, remove the water neck and use a puller to take the cover off.

In parallel, I managed to find a used water pump. Only problem is that it's attached to a whole car, but at least it does include a full 5 speed conversion and some other parts...

Unfortunately, I also managed to tear my bicep so I'm out of commission for a couple of months so won't have any updates for a while.

    Good day Pete,

That is horrible news about your bicep! Yikes... I wish you a speedy recovery!

As for the car that has the "conversion"... are you sure it is a conversion? I ask, as the pic you presented looks to have a knock-off rims which would make it a 365 Gt4 2+2, which only came with a manual transmission.

    Cheers,

There may be a lot of great parts on that car! Did you buy the whole car or just found a good donor upon which to scavenge?

Thanks for the well wishes, had surgery Friday so the mending process has begun.

It's a conversion kit for my 400 now :) but yes it's an original 365.

Bought the complete car, and it's very complete so I may end up rebuilding this one as well, have to get it home to see... Would be a shame to take it apart but I prefer the styling of the 400 and love it's color combo. With a 5 speed it'd be about perfect.... And maybe some knock offs.

Nice find! Well looks like the restoration would be quite an undertaking…
If you do decide to ‘part it out’ I might like to inquire about a few things! :)

No need for a 5 speed, a mildly tuned th400 is a blast on these cars. No point in spoiling the values the 400 with a conversion that will end with a so-so serial number (the teansmission type is in the VIN).

    Good day Pete,

Like most recoveries... taking your time will pay substantial dividends with regards to any long term issues! Rest and therapy (if prescribed) should be followed... and maybe the "occasional" libation :)

As for the 365... Do you happen to know the chassis number or have any additional pics you can share? I archive data on these cars, as finding info on them can be extremely challenging as time marches on. Secondly, I am in the Raemin camp and would suggest you maintain your 400 as it came from the factory... this will maintain its long term value should you ever decide to part with it. The same can be said for the 365... unless it is truly too far gone. That said, they are your cars and so you can do whatever makes you happy... my comments are simply another perspective.

All the best for a speedy recovery and with your cars!

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Thanks!

I'll post more pics when I get the car, still working on that. Tricky part is it really needs tires and I don't trust just anyone to properly jack it up and remove the knock offs... And I'm in no shape to do it right now.

What I do with the car will really depend on how it is mechanically when I have a chance to thoroughly go over it.

    Good day Pete,

Thanks for the pic! It looks like the chassis number is 17635... and if so, then 17635's details are:

    1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2
    Production date: 1974-01-23
    Exterior color: Avorio Tetrarch 2.662.016
    Interior color: Pelle Nera Cogolo
Dealer / Importer MARANELLO CONCESSIONAIRES LTD. - GB

Given that the car was originally imported into GB, is it a RHD car?

Also, the car looks to be sporting its original Avorio Tetrarch color. Here is a f-chat post showing some pics of the color:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/history-of-avorio-livery.479653/

Indeed, it would be best to have someone who is familiar and/or savvy with specialty cars to prepare the car for transport. That said, it looks to have sat for some time and so waiting until your are recovered would not be a big issue... except your excitement of getting up and personal with the car!. That said, a very cool find, congratulations to you... you have definitely caught the "bug" for these models :)

    Cheers,

    Sam

It's lhd. You're right that it's been sitting since roughly 1993, but it was in enclosed, dry storage and is now outside under a cover, which I don't want for too long. I'm seeing about local storage until I can get out there, but if I'm going to move it I might as well have it brought all the way to me...
