You make a lot of good points. I think Ferrari has been listening to their customers and this is a good thing. They decided to reach out to the most successful industrial designer alive today to see what he can come up with. As you probably know, what Ive has been successful at is producing products with human interaction in mind and how humans use products and then creating a design with human use engineering in mind. Ive may only be contributing interior design, which would be in his target while others are doing exterior design. We will see. https://luxurylaunches.com/transport/john-ive-to-redesign-electric-ferrari-steering-wheel-09272024.php
... but you would, without a doubt, do better than the 13 year-old anime enthusiast "designing" Ferraris for last few years.
Alternatively you can always do what Musk did with the cyber truck: Ask a 6 y.o. child to draw a car, hand the drawing to the engineers and tell them: "that's exactly how it should look like. Scale of the drawing is 1:50. Get to work" Pros: no need to hire a designer. Car will only be marginally more ugly than any other modern car. Cons: the car will look as if it was drawn by a 6 year old
And all charging cables need to always be white, even though no human has had an all-white car interior since 1968 (give or take) ...
I am Italian and I doubt that anyone of us might have ever designed an iPhone or an iPad or a Macbook. The Apple design is wonderful. Yet, if you are dominated by a minimalistic approach and you are not infected by the Italian craze, how can you do better than Pininfarina? Designers have something into their DNA that cannot be changed, that gives them identity. Can we really imagine Ives making the present equivalent of a 288? You must be mad to design a 288, and Ives is probably too sane for such an attempt. Ciao. Nic
Ferrari's best styling and designs came AFTER pinanfarina imo. I've had every mid/rear engine V8 since the 355 (except the 360 because it was just way too ugly inside and out) and it's not even close which ones are sexier. The 360, 430, 355 and 458 can't hold a candle to the 488, Pista, F8 or even SF90-- And the california is way uglier than the portofino. and the 812 blows away the 599 and F12. I just don't understand why i hear people say pinanfarina like it was a good thing. There are some exceptions but almost all their designs were boring. At least those designed and made from 1990 forward. Oh wait, I almost forgot the 348. Anyone ever say that was a good looking car? geesh... There are exceptions as i said. The 12Cilindri, Roma and 296 aren't exactly pretty cars and yes, the 512 bbi, the enzo, LaFerrari and some others are very well done but overall, Ferrari and whomever they have help them, have come with some really nice looking cars since 2015.
The Pininfarina that gave the world the sleepy Baptista? If magnolia was a car…. No thanks I’ll stick with Centro Stilo.
Hi. Isn’t this the place where most people praised the Fdesign until the 458 Italia? Ferrari started the cooperation with Pininfarina in 1951, and most Fcars until 2009 were their design: most 250s including the SWB, 275, Daytona, BB, Dino 206-246, 308-328, TR, F40, F50, F355, Enzo, 550 Maranello… I believed that on these monumental models that made the brand there was 100% agreement they were masterpieces. I’d have never guessed that anybody might prefer a 488 or a Portofino or a 296 to any of these. Just my opinion. Ciao. Nic
