Can anyone who has owned both opine on the ride compares wrt daily driving around town and highway? Is the m5 in comfort mode much harsher than the FF/Lusso?

I own a Lusso and had an M5 Comp for 3 years. The ride on the M5 is very firm in town. Family members complained all the time. It's the reason I sold it. The Lusso is much more plush and a nicer car to own.

I definitely agree with the M5 being much firmer. The Lusso is very compliant. It also has to do with the distance to the front wheels.

I have found the FF a bit harsher and definitely more nosier than the M5, but I feel much more connected to the car and the road on the FF than the M5. I took off the competition wheels on the M5 after 3k miles(NYC roads) and used the winter wheels all year around with all season tires. Doing long days on curvy roads the FF is better, driving to work in city traffic M5 is much more comfortable.

I’ve had 4 different generations of m5’s, my last was a 2021 comp which BMW claimed has a smoother ride due to the switch to the M8 shocks as part of the mid cycle refresh. The cars ride was not the smoothest over less than perfect roads.
I moved to a 23 Panamera GTS last year and it’s been the best 4 door car I’ve ever owned by far, everything about it feels like a level up from the M5. I also tried the Turbo s version but found the GTS was more fun to drive and has all the power I needed.
