Just starting a new thread since I'm guessing this is much more complicated than changing the seal and gasket on the distributor.

Changed both, took the car for a drive and this morning I see a small drip of oil.

So I'm guessing the O ring on the distributor shaft needs replacing.

I've read that to remove the end, the entire cam needs to come out.

Is this correct? If so I'm thinking I'll live with the little drip until it's time to do cam belts, etc.

I think you probably have a poor quality O-ring. It’s been discussed many times through the years that the available rubber bits and pieces that have flooded the market , are basically garbage. I definitely do not like paying $12 for an O-ring but I really dislike doing the repair twice..

    Ok I didn't replace the O ring.

I replaced the distributor seal and gasket.

My question is, if I have to replace the O ring (which I believe I do since it is still leaking) do I have to remove the cam.

    Is this correct?

I can only speak for the QV. No, replaced it on my 84 GTB and it took my buddy who was a mechanic, about 15 minutes to change the O-ring on both distributors, but it was about 15 years ago, so I don’t remember if he removed the distributor or not.. sucks to get old lol

If you are replacing number 8, then yes, it would 90% of the time require the cam shaft to be out of the car. Pin 34 is likely very tight and cannot be simply pushed out.
