Just placed an order with Superfomance, wondering how it will work out with tariffs, fingers crossed. Cheers, Lynn
To be expected, I suppose. My philosophy has always been, if I can't afford the maintenance, I could not afford the car to begin with. On 29 April, I received an email from AW Italian Auto Parts stating they are increasing prices "approximately 10%" due to tarrifs and increased costs of doing business.
Unless something happens in the next 24 hours, you should expect a 25% duty on imported auto parts from anywhere in the world when the HTS code falls within the range specified by the Executive Order. If the HTS code is outside that range, you'll pay the 10% duty which is already in force for nearly all imports to the US. The days of paying 'zero' duty/tax on small imports is over. Whether its shipped via Postal, DHL, FedEx, UPS, or whatever, the de minimis exemptions are gone and the 10% is the very least you'll pay. Items which arrive via DHL, UPS, and FedEx will also likely be subject to the brokerage fees (which is basically like the 'cost' of having FedEx submit the entry to US Customs) (the other issue will likely be delays on small orders. The old de minimis exemptions allowed a pile of stuff to flow into the country without too much 'paperwork;. With that exemption gone, the volume of work for your carrier and CBP will grow substantially.)
Thanks guys, I agree, if you have to ask you likely can't afford it. Still, adding 10-35% to the already hefty prices is not something to sneeze at IMHO. I will keep ya'll posted on what happens. Cheers, Lynn
The “ If you have to ask , you likely can’t afford it” mantra is total BS. It’s just asking to be bent with zero lube.
That saying drivers me nuts, I work hard for what I have and I do ask the prices on everything not that I am cheap it's so I know where my money is going I do not mind spending and having to pay all the taxes it id what my money is being used for The bad spending of the government is nuts I should be the one who p:$$ my money away not the politicians. If terifs are going to lower my taxes and I only the higher taxes on the things I want that's fine for me now the government will only bleed me dry on my terms and not in my pay check before I get to spend my money
I bought this $699 carpet set on ebay 2 months ago for the 328, it arrived this last week with a $182 bill for duty taxes - so yes, tariffs have come https://www.ebay.com/itm/325865110180 Worse yet, scoundrel seller, this i received is not for 328 and not as in snap posted ebay ad. then I see that i received not as the ad image shows us, but much different - no door panels carpet, different passenger side floor carpet cutted out and most look like the 308qv parts that Tapis sell for $549 here; https://www.tapis-deluxe.com/en/4478-complete-interior-carpet-kit-ferrari-308-gts-from-1975-1985-only-lhd.html
Did u know that ferrari parts exchange sell superformance parts in usa with no duty, no expensive overseas shipping and easier returns?
To the best of my knowledge (and I say this because the rules are quickly changing) the De Minimis exemption, which allows low value shipments of $800 or less entering the US, to come in tariff and duty free is still in effect. The exception being any goods which are made in China (regardless of where in the world it ships from). These items are to be hit with a tariff of up to 145%. Practically speaking a complete removal of De Minimis would result in a massive slowdown to the movement of goods into the US due to the additional time associated with processing the tariffs. Most countries have some form of de minimis and for years the one to the US was unusually big.
Ouch! I think I ordered carpets from the same guy off of ebait out of Germany. Thanks for the heads up.... Cheers, Lynn
"If you have to ask, you can't afford it." - I'm with @26street and @308 milanoon this one, that's a colloquialism that drives me insane and is total BS. Why is there such a stigma attached to wanting to know how much you're paying for something? I ask the price because I want to know what I'm paying, it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I can afford it. There are things in life I'd buy regardless of price, but I'm not just going to blindly handover my credit card info or a blank check without knowing the total cost. That's asinine.
If you could afford the upkeep of your car, and suddenly the upkeep increases 10-145% in parts, that's not ok.
Good day Lynn, Just a heads up to do a search "ferrari parts exchange" (FPE) on here before you buy anything from them...FPE looks to have a mixed reputation. Cheers, Sam
Thank you Sam, I'll check them out. Given what I've read here I'm wondering what kind of carpet set I'll be getting from the e-bait supplier. I ordered directly from supplies from Superformance to do a 'major' service on my new to me 328 and I'm expecting to get hit pretty hard. There's not much one can do but I am tempted to deduct the cost of the tariffs from my IRS payment ;-) Cheers, Lynn
