Hi everybody. I just bought a Ferrari Dino 308 Gt4 1975, and thanks to this great forum I have already learned a lot regarding these cars. The car needs a couple of fixes, so I hope that some of you experts will be able to share your knowledge.

The first problem is that there is a hole in the coolant pipe running on top of the engine, number 36 on this image:

I have taken the pipe of, and hope to get it tig welded.
The pipe has been rubbing against the bolt from the oil filter holder, so the questions are:

-How can I make sure that this will not happen again? Is there supposed to be some kind of pipe holder?
-The coolant has been sprayed all over the top of the engine, and also reached the timing belt. How bad is this?

There should be a pipe holder using one of the top bolts for the clutch housing to keep the tube in place. My enginge is out so I am sorry I cannot take a photo.

I'd rinse the coolant off the timing belt, but I don't think it's harmed.

As noted repair that tube no worries.

On my GTB I put a pad made of rubber rad hose on those tubes, where I am afraid a bracket or belt might chaff on them!

From the post above, it sounds like you may well be missing a clamp support, easily fabricated once you see how it's made.

    Bob,
Had the same thing on my GT4 a couple of months ago! There really is enough room in the valley that the tube can run through there without touching anything. Some "mechanic" evidently "fixed" a leaking rubber hose on the left side of the engine by shortening it, and pulled the tube down so it touched the intake manifold nut. My tube when removed looked exactly like yours. I had mine welded with an aluminum setup MIG by a tech at work. Heres a pic after repairs...

Wow, thanks guys for all the pictures and good advice. I will get/ make a holder similar to the one in the picture, and also try to get a rubber boot for the bolt that made the damage.

Fixed:) I got the pipe TIG welded, although I probably could have fixed it with some good epoxy. I also found out that Superformance sells these pipes in stainless steel for a reasonable price.

Mounted the pipe with a P-Clip, same as Newto308 showed in the picture above, and put on some protective vulcanizing tape outside, just to be sure if the P-Clip should break. If you should be in the same situation I would recommend to first drain the coolant using the engine petcock. Just protect the area below with some plastic, and use a funnel.

Thanks again for the help guys!

I’ve just had pipe start leaking, again looks like the spike type thing has rubbed through the pipe going down. I can’t get under the car yet as it’s on my drive at home, I’ve managed to squeeze the iPhone down there and get a pic. Any ideas what the offending article is?
