Blues/Jets turning into a cage match
Up until the last 3 minutes of the game I thought St L had them. After that, it was a matter of time. The Jets the better play until the bitter end, which you could see was coming. The Blues didn't have the gas left for offense anymore.
Blues were smoked the last 5 minutes of that game consolation in the 2nd WC team taking the #1 seed to OT in game 7. but still.
What a game with the Jets holy. I had a travel day and turned off the game with 6 minutes left. My wife messaged me, "are you watching this?"
This was an incredible comeback, and an incredible meltdown (the Blues are the new Leafs).....great work by the Jets never giving up.
That's one thing GOOD thing about being a referee - you get to see all the action up close AND not hear any commentators
Not one that is that obvious, which is subject to review, which the NHL decided not to use while having it at their disposal. If you recall, that was the emphasis that season, the skate in the crease....yet the NHL waits for the biggest game, on the biggest stage, to muck that up. I remember a game earlier that season, the Leafs vs Calgary, and here is what happened: Calgary down, last minute of the game, no goalie in the net as he was pulled for the extra attacker. The Leafs gained possession of the puck, and skate it all the way down to Calgary's end. Matts Sundin has a skate blade in the crease, with no goalie in the net, and his teammate fired it into the open net. The NHL reviewed that play, and deemed it no goal because of the skate in the crease. It was the right call on a dumb rule. Now, if they can make the correct call in a meaningless December game, wouldn't you expect them to make the correct call in the Stanley Cup finals? Bryan Lewis was the NHL's director of officiating at that time, and he was instructing a referee's recertification clinic that summer that I was at. I joked with him about that call, and he just kept a straight face.
