Anyone have a good stereo upgrade they did in their 348 with CarPlay, subwoofer and good speakers?
Lots of threads on this. You can buy a cheap single din head with a screen or splurge for the Porsche one. I wouldn’t recommend a pop out. If you have a fixed roof car there’s room behind the seats for speakers. If you have a spider the passenger footwell is probably your only option. Amps are small these days. Lots of places to squeeze one.
I did a search. I didn’t find a lot of great options on here. I would like to see what people did to install CarPlay and extra speakers and subwoofers, and where they put them
oh I’m not disagreeing. I just can’t find anything good so far that’s why I thought it’d be easier just to reach out
What aspect are you struggling most with? Any enclosure is going to need to be custom so, if it were me, I would start with finding a stereo shop you like.
Yeah, I have a stereo shop I like, but they don’t have experience putting a stereo in the 348 so I just wanted to see what other people did so I could tell them where to put the speakers where to put the subwoofer etc. etc. I don’t want them guessing and they asked me to do some research
If you want to keep the OEM look than a Single DIN unit is the way to go. I did extensive research and only found this JVC unit from Amazon with a LCD screen for reverse camera and all functions except CarPlay. OEM look was important for me so my setup ensures that speakers stay hidden . But work is required with factory speaker enclosure space which is not very deep. I also chose a compact 4 channel amp which fits behind the single DIN head unit . So everything is concealed . Attached is my setup list . The sound proofing was an excellent investment as 348 Audio dynamics with my customer exhaust and no rear glass screen js a challenge to get best audio from the system . It’s taken me a year to find a sub woofer option due to not having space which will hide it. I don’t want a subwoofer protruding and keep it all stealth. My installer has now just found enough space for a Focal ultra slim 8” subwoofer to be fitted on passenger side foot end in the middle panel at the far end under the amp . It’ll be done in the next 2-3 months . It’s all a Focal and Audison Setup so same parent company I think . , amp-speakers-subwoofer Hope this helps Best Ashar Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've put the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 in my 348, which supports Bluetooth and all those amenities. But of course, it does not support CarPlay. There aren't many single-din CarPlay options. The only existing ones seem to be AliExpress units, which in fairness, are inexpensive enough to warrant a test. One of the last ones I've seen around, which looks interesting, is the following: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007792861874.html I am not sure, though, whether it will fit in the stereo compartment of our 348. But if it does, it might be a good option. It's not much of a looker or even period-correct, but since it would be mostly hiding, it wouldn't matter. I still believe this is better than having the phone hanging off a vent holder and with a cable running to the charger.
Money no object, you want the Porsche. https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUCLASSIC.html?srsltid=AfmBOopyYZbl3qNrGShM7NzOLJ058NPxt_ESAqP8HszLCnj8ecodvyW1HSw&gQT=2
You don‘t want the Porsche Radio in your Ferrari. That feels wrong - I know you can read the „Porsche“ label only when the clap is opened but it‘s somehow weird (imo). I would go with a classic Alpine or Blaupunkt with some bluetooth adapter.
I have one of these waiting to go in my f355, a couple of 355 folks have used this and have given good feedback, supports both carplay and android auto (unlike the Porsche unit). The background and startup display can be changed to what you want to match the car. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-Acoustik-CP-71W-Single-DIN-6-5-Color-Touchscreen-Car-Stereo-with-Bluetooth-Connected-Apple-CarPlay-Android-Auto-New/5055269224
I have the Power Acoustic unit. perfect Car Play connection. Really nice unit especially for the price. I was skeptical because it was a super crap brand back in the day. Choices are limited these days but I’m very happy with it. I have Polk Audio separates up front ADS plates in the rear and a JL 400.4 amp. Not happy with the amp.
I upgraded the period Alpine with a newer BT capable Pioneer unit with built in DSP, etc... Vehicle already had quality component speakers installed. I added a small powered sub and hid it in the center console. Everything looks "stock" but the sub adds plenty of low end and allows the components to really so their job.
Is this the only unit that will work? I purchased the car but its not here yet for me to get the dimensions. If someone could share the dimensions that would be greatly appreciated or if they think any of the attached options below would work. I had focal 6.5s and tweeters put in plus two focal subs in this custom box made for my F355: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Did the Blaupunkt 46 for a period correct look but am pulling it because I'm getting MAJOR volume and quality loss evrn when streaming from a hardwired phone.
Why even worry about the head these days? Just Bluetooth directly to the amp and control the volume from your phone.
Ive done it this way, and while I love simplifying things it’s just easier to do all the other functions with a head unit. Plus navigation etc, I put my phone away in the little spot under the e brake while I’m driving. So I don’t have to see it on some dash mount.
I’m pulling the custom JL Audio system from my 355 done by the previous owner. Just buy mine and save yourself the headache and risk of the customization turning out ugly. I’m not audio sexual, so this is overkill for my needs. I’m racecar sexual . JL W3 10 inch Sub with custom enclosure. Solid. Well-made and thought out. Can recline seats all the way back. Gaps closed very nicely. Leather color is a 90% match to our blacks. Definitely one of the better-made enclosures I’ve seen if you don’t mind exposed sub. This is probably where most of the money was spent. 2 6.5 ZR JL Speakers 1 JL Tweeter (instead of 2 for whatever reason) Pretty much this setup minus a tweeter. https://www.ebay.com/itm/315104247819 JL HD 600/4 AMP. Will give you custom carpet panels they made where the amp was mounted. You can pretty much just install it with minimal customization if any.
